MX5 owners

Post by John »

They are a special breed.

This is from the FB MX5 group

"Hi guys and gals!
Today Mazda service told me to replace my disc and pads on my mx5 2017 icon only the front one. Can this be right? I thought the mx5 brakes were on the back ?
Thanks"

Christ, that's bad, and I spent a fair amount of time on Ford Puma one make/model forums.

I've avoided looking up BMW forums for the most part, I'm not sure I could handle them for the E46. Or anything else...

Oh dear. But this is why there are 15 year old MX5s for sale which have been garaged all their lives and only have 10,000 miles on them - they are owned by people who barely even drive

@Jobbo not sure if you have ruled out an mx5, but if you havent this seems like a lot of car for the money, due to 'high' mileage.

That is quite similar to the one I test drove at my stepson's dealership though since that was the end of last summer, it was about £16k. Not a bad price. I really didn't like the colour though; that grey is insipid.

Not sure what I'm going to get yet once we've moved house; the budget might be dented by a new mower

Yeah, I don't like orange on it much. Soul crystal red suits it really well but is so common; black is OK, the metallic blues and grey are dull. White is good, and there's a very light silver which is tolerable. I really need to find some obscure Japanese import in Laguna Blue to satisfy me

True, but 18yr old car a little different from 5yr old car.

I came across a "PWIG" whilst playing Project Cars 2 online. Messaged them, but no response.

I swapped my first mk1 MX5 for a Boxster. After 2 years I swapped back. They're very different cars.

A mate has just bought a very tidy 2005 Boxster for £6250 so I would not be paying anything like that for a similar age Cayman either.

The cayman would feel like an over geared boat by comparison and ownership costs would be very different.

A 2006 Mazda could cost circa £5k, a 2019 Cayman would be circa £35k and be a 2.0 litre.

My mate chris had a 2.9 987 boxster. it was very nice. clean and immaculate. We were out for a run and swapped for a shot. Jumping from the Elise to the boxster was a bit dull. Totally different things i get but as a toy car it just didn't feel special enough to me. The brakes IIRC were crap as well - although that may have just been the pads on that particular car. He sold it shortly after and bought another AMG 55 SLK. which is currently for sale again as hes put a deposit on a V10 R8 Spyder.
