Driving Shoes

Yeah My last remaining pair of Puma Speed Cats have finally died.

They don’t seem to make them any more. What do I do now ?? I don’t need driving shoes per se but the footwell is quite cramped and anything chunky is awkward. Also very thin soles (especially the heels) give me a tiny bit more legroom which does make a difference.

I used to wear Onitsuka Tigers when i had the 968/996 for the same reason, all the newer cars must have had bigger pedal boxes as i havent worn them for years.

Speedcats were essential in the Caterham, not needed them since. I always found them a bit uncomfortable if you have to walk anywhere!

Cheap and you don't look a berk wearing them when not driving

My partner recently bought me a pair of Sparco driving shoe/trainers. (She reckoned that the blue bits are the same colour as my car). Haven't walked anywhere in them yet though as the weather has been too filthy. Meanwhile my old Pilottis are going strong and are fine to drive and walk in.

Adidas Goodyear Adi-racers are pretty good too.

I have a pair of very lightweight Adidas Porsche somethings, but I think they were a special edition

I also find climbing shoes very good to drive in - compact, stiff soles and rubber all the way up the heal

Yeah I think as long as they’ve got a rubber heel which is rounded then they’re good for driving. I find Converse style or just shoes uncomfortable for long distance driving as they have a sharp 90 degree heel

I didn’t like them. Soles were too stiff for my liking. Made it difficult to heal and toe.

If I’m doing a trackday I go full wanker and wear my race boots. Bit overkill for general driving however. For an afternoon blast I find my knackered old converse or an old pair of vans hard to beat. I’ve got a pair of Nike air 95 but find the soles too thick for spirited driving.
