Who do you guys use? I've stupidly ended up with 6 points on my licence (two Sp30s) and all of a sudden the price comparison sites don't like me very much! I've got 11 years NCB, so that's not an issue.

Also, if I wanted to modify my car, the mainstream insurers are basically a hard no.

And my recommendation of A-Plan, now Howden Insurance - they've insured all sorts for me, dealt with NCB mirroring across underwriters etc. I can recommend.

On that subject, that is the stupidest rename of any company ever.

Blimey, the best quote I was getting was numbers like £1200 with a black box or WAY more without. I was not happy.

I spoke to Alex's old company on the recommendation from Mik. Just got (and bought) a quote. £530!

Annual insurance roulette is spinning again. Except one thing (I need business use on a car for work purposes, less than a thousand miles a year expected) Nothing has changed. The cars, claims, and drivers are a year older. NCB has increased by a year. Can't get the insurance below £1,100 which is just ridiculous. Current provider sent a nice quote with a 58% increase (nearly £1,300 ) and some waffle about how everything is costing more, so prepare for a shock.

Looking at the comparison sites is making my heard hurt. Everything has had the complication factor increased by suddenly excluding things that used to be automatic (windscreen, personal possessions, travel abroad, etc.), making comparing things even more difficult.

Have emailed Howden to see if they can help. As the cars aren't anything special I suspect they won't. Joy of joys.

Yeah, I had the same pain....despite numerous calls I still ended up paying 80% more than last year (although it had been remapped since, but even without estimates were showing a 60% increase).

The "options" have always been that that AFAIK. I only ever pick legal.

Try Admiral, they were the cheapest for me (but wouldn't insure my mods) plus the multicar might work in your favour.

This is a policy for a normal car isn't it?

They tried, but couldn't come close to what others were offering. So, it looks like we're going with Admiral.

Edit: no we're not. I wasn't comfortable with the quote engine capturing all the information, so I called to make sure. There were some gaps (for some reason my wife was listed as without children living at home), and it had the owner/keeper vs. policyholder the wrong way round. Long story short, the price went up by £200 which took them well over the renewal quote.

Then called our current insurer because the renewal quote didn't list the towbar as a modification. Adding that dropped the price by £21. Makes no sense to me.

So, will try looking at two single policies instead of a multicar, just to get a baseline. I hate this, it is so unnecessarily complicated.

Comparison sites are coming up with £1300-1400 from Bell and Admiral initially, I didn't bother checking any deeper as I assumed the usual specialist insurers could do better, but apparently no cunt wants business from a 40 year old in a quiet town in the north of england with 12 years NCB and no convictions, doing 8000 miles for SDPC.

Anyone got any other ideas? I've not really had a problem with legit shitty quotes before, so just checking I'm not missing something....

Directline were the cheapest by miles for mine.

I imagine the cost is less to do with you and more to do with the car you're trying to insure

Admiral Direct are saying £1388 (aka £125/month) for basically everything (euro, hire car, personal masseuse) which given the car and the way insurance has gone this year, seems more reasonable.
