GTA is a fantastic satire of the real world
There is a lot to live up to. GTA V started out as a biting satire of the real world, with so much detail it genuinely took years to see it all. The real world loved it so much it started to reflect GTA; where GTA's cultural references were picked from decades of inspiring music, film, politics etc, new media in the last decade has regularly had overt references to GTA as its inspiration.
Frankly I don't think it's possible for GTA 6 to achieve anything like the impact GTA V did, even if it will (inevitably) make more money - at least initially. I wonder if we'll still be playing it after a decade?
The obvious thing for Rockstar to do is to make it more of the same but in a different location, and that's doubtless what it will. But there has to be a reset - you can't start off a new game world with jet-powered hover bikes with homing missiles. I imagine 90%+ of the GTA 6 buyers will have played GTA V previously; who is really up for a reset?
I imagine loads are desperate for a new start. Games get boring when you have all the kit on offer.

There has to be, I agree. But when Rockstar style GTA Online as a game in its own right, and other large online games have persistent worlds, I wonder if it is definitely the right thing to do? People playing for 10 years feel they've earned their stuff.
Just watched the trailer - the fact that it's soundtracked by my favourite Tom Petty track helped. Obviously it just looks like an update of GTA V with a new location and many of the same cars but it still looks great. Well worth waiting 12 years for...
I realise it's probably one of the largest entertainment releases in the history of the galaxy, but seriously, it feels like something is wrong when it takes 12 years to release a game sequel and the trailer comes out ~18 months prior to the game release

Ian's link to the trailer is for Gamespot rather than Rockstar, so it only feels fair to link to the original copyright holder:
50 million views in 10 hours that's Mr Beast levels of views

Removed my link as per Jobbo’s post. Interestingly, the Rockstr was 7th on my list when I searched for the trailer.
Looking forward to the OV9 digital meet
In prep im going to start a motion towards Xbox...
I'll be amazed if it looks that good on release. Pretty impressive lighting.
I'll be placing my bets for a 2026 release....with the typical delays of modern games and just how massive this will be I can foresee a slip in the release date to get it to a high polish.
This will be massive. How many publishers will be planning their releases to avoid being anywhere near it's release date
Christmas 2025 release surely.
I reckon it’ll look that good on PC, probably have some crazy graphics cards by then. Eventually it will look that good on console as well as they’ll sell it on the PS6 and 7

It’ll be interesting to see how they manage the Series S. as Baldur’s Gate 3 was delayed on Xbox due to its limitations..
