There’s been no indication that it was deliberate and that tweet is pretty disgusting tbh.

Matt Petgrave was knocked off balance by his hit on the player in front of Adam Johnson. He was obviously going for a check on Johnson but his leg has came up to catch his balance. It was a horrible accident.

Looking purely at the video, it looks like he did lift his leg to kick the player who was coming towards him instead of shouldering him, like he was working off kick boxing reflexes instead of ice hockey. I don't think you could really put it as a premeditated thing, but certainly reckless.

That's how I saw it too. I don't think for a second he intended to kill the other player.

Looks like someone with a history of penalties for kicking and spearing who kicked too high this time.
