or any other similar policies that cover you for costs between the Water Mains and your house ??

Anyone have a policy ? Anyone ever needed it to claim (or got a big bill for works) ? Are they worth it?

Do you know where the connection to your house runs? Is there any identified risk that you're trying to cover? And would it already be covered by your home insurance?

Never really thought about it but recently, during one of the storms, a load of moss got washed down into the drains. there are 5 roofs where moss could end up in the system and only 2 of therm are ours

After the storm,, flushing the upstairs toilet, caused mossy water to splash up into the downstairs bathroom sink. I poured 2 or 3 Sink and Plug Hole unblockers down it and its sorted now but it got me thinking about possible future issues

If the property was built before 2011 and the pipework is shared, it is probably the responsibility of the water/sewerage company. Some background here: https://www.pinsentmasons.com/out-law/g ... developers
If it was built after 1 July 2011 then the pipes did not exist at the date they would have automatically become adopted by the water company so you'd need to check the searches to show to what extent they were adopted by agreement. I would expect any shared pipes to be adopted.

If the water company is responsible for them then insurance would be virtually money for nothing. You would only be responsible for the section of pipes which solely serve your property, from the last shared junction/connection.

Separate to the ownership issue, I'd recommend not leaving it at that and getting someone to poke a camera in and see if the pipes are fucked further downstream, and fully flush out any blockages they see. They might also be able to help work out the pathing of the pipes, if any need any new liners etc. And doing it fairly soon.

I've made the mistake of thinking 'it'll be reet'. Then I had mild food poisoning, was using the toilet more often and realised that it actually, it wasn't fine. Not at all.

I won't bore you with the details, but yeah, suffice to say, easiest £200 I've spent in a long time, even if it did mean living on pasta and potatoes for the rest of the month.
