Selling Cars Privately

Post by Carlos »

Fuck me its hard work!

I've sold a few cars privately over the years but the last was 10 years ago. Lots of photo's, decent description, long mot and price it sensibly and they always went in a couple of weeks.

Selling my daughters Mito has been like pulling teeth. Multiple messages asking is it still for sale and then nothing, people asking will i take a part-exchange, 1 travelled 3 hours and walked away as her son didn't like the white wheels and didn't expect the wheel to be kerbed, a number of no shows and finally today a local chap who phoned at 7am this morning to view it, cancelled 2 minutes before he was due as he wants a diesel!

Another 2 hours wasted messing about washing it, charging the battery, checking fluid etc

Been on Ebay, Autotrader, Gumtree for 4 weeks.

I have put it on Marketplace but they have no option for a Mito!

Probably the same as Jockland, location is an issue for me, both these today have mentioned they are more than 1.5 hours away hence the questions!

Unless you have a unicorn that everyone wants it can be painful.

Out of curiosity I've just stuck a handwritten note in the side window of the Defender today and within 15 minutes of parking up in Grosvenor Square for an appointment someone has texted me asking for a chat about it after 6pm - let's see if it's the exception to the rule!

Fucking hell don't go near Gumtree and eBay...the former especially.

Have you tried owners groups on Facebook and/or dedicated forums? Usually get more 'switched on' people there rather than the mongs that claw their way over Gumtree and the like.

I'll try Alfaowners tomorrow.

I've had a message in Whatsapp today from a number who's been flagged on Google for scalping bank data/monies by asking sellers to use his hpi link and then he'll buy it lol

That should have been "quick wash"

Another guy phoned about 10 minutes before todays no show and I said I'll ring him back if it doesn't go. I've now messaged him back and phoned, nothing!

I had a guy offer me £3500 CASH for the BMW today, as it sits, shedlike. Same guy I mentioned before who was very very very very enthusiastic about buying it off me a couple of months ago.

I told him I'd think about it then, and I've told him I'm keeping it now. Because frankly, he's a bit annoying in his keenness. Keen enough to ring alarm bells, frankly.

After a while the second guy came back...Its advertised at £2k...He offered £700. Just fuck right off.

Someone else wants to look at it tomorrow. So it continues.

Im only advertising it on marketplace at the moment cos its free. Might go with a Car & Classic auction.
