I know the body addenda and bonnet are meant to evoke the rally A110s of 50 years ago but they don't really work to me. Just looks like a Max Power version of the A110.
Yeah I'm no fan. There's a purity to the base model that appeals so much. I quite like the R's wheels though!
Can you still drive after you've been lobotomised? I can only think of that as a reason why you'd buy a 100k Alpine over a GT4 RS or an Exige Cup 430...

I'm sure the R still suffers from the same fuel pump issues as any other A110 as well. Sadly I agree with GG here.

And I'm not being mean for the sake of it - I do like the idea of an Alpine for, maybe high 20s - but that is where 4cyl cars top out for me (maybe excluding the spiciest Caterhams). I wouldn't pay 40k + for one and certainly not 100k!

I don't think you can get very much in the £20ks these days, so that's probably a little unfair, but your overall point still stands.

One can only assume he meant non-RS GT4.

Even a Golf R has a list well north of £40k these days. Hell, our Superb only snuck in at a fiver under, and that was 5 years ago.

£97k (before options) and it still has the 4-banger. :(

And anyway - shirley Alpine is a £50k brand? (/ @Rich B )
yep, totally.

Without trying too hard you can spend >£20k on a Dacia these days.

List is £123k but obvs you can't actually buy one. To be fair, I'd probably have an ~£80kish 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 or a 911 of some type even if the GT4 RS was available at list.

No I meant a new GT4 RS... then again you would need to get an allocation. But yes I'd still much rather have a 2nd gen GT4 or 718 Spyder (or Lotus Exige).

ETA: Just saw Jobbo's response - all of what he said!

Impressive that they can get 247bhp from a -1L engine. Can't even wrap my head around the concept of negative volume.

There must be something special about them when the likes of Gordon Murray and James May daily drive them, they are not exactly shackled by budget!

I watched a few reviews last night and they seem to be highly regarded by everyone who's been in them!

Yeah, I was gonna say, I was looking at car price inflation recently and worked out that although an Emira seems expensive, if you walk back inflation it's not that out if you compare it to an S1 Exige from back in the day given the difference in class, cabin space, etc; ie it seems priced 'about right' (or at least not unreasonably) compared to stuff from the 2000s.

We're all just getting old.

I think expecting something better than a four banger is probably a >£50k thing these days.
