Yes, go on Duncs. Was not me anyway, and since I’m not gutted that’s probably the right decision.

Keep looking at Alpine A110s anyway 😄

I have a mate who would be interested but as I didn’t mention it to him it’s probably not him either.

Nice thing for the money though.

Nobody on here sadly, I put it on the local FB car group and a dad spotted it for a first car for his son. Funnily enough I was at the local meet the night before they came round, and the dad was there too and remembered my car.

I think the father and son are going to do it up a bit together. Great first car, I ended up dropping the second key round to them the next evening and the lad had been spending the day with it and was well chuffed.

I'm guessing I might see them both at the local car meet another time, so will be nice to see the car again hopefully having had a bit of TLC.

Awesome 8-) quite glad I didn’t take it now, I’m really pleased it’s gone to someone as a first car, that’s awesome!

Hopefully the youngling will take good care of it and learn the principles of oversteer in a car, from an early age

Must admit, you had me tempted too, though I don't need a replacement for the Golf right now, so it would have sat around mostly getting in the way!

I'd imagine insurance will be many, many times the purchase price of the car.

Cooler than my Chevette though :D

I mean, if you're gonna spunk £1200 insuring a corsa or whatever it costs these days, might as well spent a bit more insuring something that's not fucking terrible.

I think most new drivers are paying a lot more than £100/month for insurance - anyone have a 17/18yr old and know for sure?

It was going to cost me £800 a year to insure the MX5, and I'm 45  a teenager is gonna be way more, regardless of how safe their postcode is.

My daughter paid £1,500 for her Mito at 17 and that's pretty much the minimum as her mates have paid similar for a Polo/Citroen C1 and just paid £2,850 for her GT86 at 18. That was paying in full, some of the charges for paying on a drip can add another few hundred a year!

I remember MX5's were out as any engine bigger than 1.4l doubled the insurance.
How about not having a sig at all?

Yes the credit rates on insurance are basically the same as putting it on a credit card - to be avoided if at all possible...

Wow.

Does Third Party still exist these days and if so does it save much? I wonder if you'd be better piling any savings from TP to one side to cover any losses. Especially if your insurance costs are more than the car's worth.

In our case insurers either wouldn't quote TPF&T or they were the same price.

Yeah, no idea how much insurance would be. I wonder whether it's a very uncommon car for a teenager and low power for its engine size, maybe they got a good deal somehow.

I feel like the dad wanted to get him into something interesting though, so maybe he just bankrolled it... but the dad was very keen to say to the lad that 'this is your money, you do the negotiation, you transfer the cash etc', so wouldn't surprise me if he was making him cover the insurance from his savings or something.

Apparently, someone asking for TPF&T is seen as more of a risk than someone being sensible and going FC.
