Yep. Cancelled. Don’t know if anyone on here was planning on going?

Must be pretty worried about the weather 😬

I’m discussing with a mate to go down next year. He lives in London so has suggested I fly down and he picks me up and we go. Imagine how shit it would have been if we’d planned that for today.

They said they were cancelling because of the risk of high winds

Makes me wonder if they may have to cancel Sunday as well, if there is damage to any of the stands/displays etc

And I think most of the pits are just pop-up gazebo type structures

High winds could cause havoc/lots of damage

The structures will be fine, especially all closed up. I reckon they’re more worried about an old tree branch breaking and injuring someone. And the whole place is set up between grand old trees.

Probably looked at the jag wheel bouncing into the crowd and not killing someone and thought “yup, that’s all our luck for this weekend used up”

My first thought was for the big display in front of the house. I’m sure there’s a huge safety factor built into them, but they never look very sturdy.

The trees makes more sense though 😅

It’s a walk round on Saturday morning - if you don’t want to watch it, no problem. Just interesting seeing the stands mostly empty.

What was the reality/outcome? Did it open today?

I assume it must have. I’d love to see how they managed to get all the cars back and the structures re-covered overnight.

I don’t think they did get all the cars back if the official hillclimb was anything to go by. Still don’t understand why they didn’t let the McMurtry have an official attempt. It did a 39 second run in the morning. The winning run from the Mclaren Solus was 45 seconds 🙄

I would love to know what times it ran in the torrential rain, relative to everything else

I suspect the gap may have been even more impressive than its dry times?
