Magnifier glasses

I have a couple of good magnifiers, but you need to hold them - which means you can see what you want to do, but don’t have enough hands to do it.

So I’ve fancied some glasses for some time, but I am cautious that many are cheap shit.

These arrived today - I am sure folks like dentists or watchmakers who wear this type of thang for hours at a time would highlight their shortcomings, but for £26 I am impressed.

Only 3.5x magnification, focussed at approx 45cm from your noggin, but it’s a pretty clear and bright image, adjustable position, (ie set for straight ahead, vs looking down) and easy to alternate between looking through the magnified section, and looking past (which you don’t get with some of the “band” type designs.

These have already been used to remove a splinter (aka "a skelf" in Jockland) from my thumb.

They made the job approximately 473.4 times easier.

I did not encounter any headaches.

A tougher man would have just self amputated his thumb

If they're good, I'll let my dental clients know. They normally spend 100x that amount on loupes :o

So I used these again this morning to perform a PRECISION SUPERGLUEING task, and thought I'd return to provide an update review.

The ones I bought no longer appear to be available on the LongSouthAmericanRiver website, so as a reminder - they look like this.

NEGATIVES

1. This design utilises separate lenses which need to be adjusted to suit the user, and if you meet criteria A below you may find that you have to readjust them so you can see what the fuck is going on, whilst ensuring that you also avoid a Holywood-esque binocular image - as best presented in the film Top Secret - evidenced in C below.

2. They are a little "nose heavy" so I wouldn't want to wear them for more than 11 minutes & 16 seconds at a time.

3. Your partner/children may snigger and mumble insults when they see you using them.

POSITIVES

1. I've used these AT LEAST 26 times since I posted the original message, and with a usage ratio therefore exceeding one use per pound spent on the product, I declare these to be a GOOD VALUE purchase.

2. You can look at practically everything under magnification. Probably even Attack Ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. This can be VERY USEFUL

3. The ability to easily alternate between looking through the magnifying lenses, or looking through the clear plastic lenses makes them VERY VERSATILE. You can even get up from your working location and walk to another location whilst wearing these glasses without walking into a door. Usually.

RATING: 9.5 small things made bigger out of ten.

A. Clumsy bastard that drops things

C. Top Secret Binoculars

D. What happened to B?

B. Ah there it is.

E. Zargood.

2 questions -
1) are these suitable for me as an existing glasses wearer?
2) Will these enable me to read the cooking instructions on a Tesco Katsu Curry?

1. Probably not as both have ear bits & nose bits. A “headband” stylee might work better for you. Something like this one ?

2. I’ll wager ten pound sterling that they could enable one to read the cooking instructions on ANY microwave curry currently for sale in the U of K.
