Try going out with a conceptual artist I've learned very quickly which art events to avoid!

Anyway, did you see the 2019 Art Basel $120,000 banana? The owner can replace the banana with the artist's instructions. I mean, it looks nice, but also incredibly easy to fake

I visited the degree show at the Glasgow School of Art circa 1992, and got screamed at cos I accidentally sat down on someone’s “installation” (aka some boxes) to smoke a fag…..

For balance - we do have tickets to go and see the Banksy exhibition at GOMA next week.

Reminds me that I went to the Tate in London on a school 6th form art trip - I was so preoccupied looking at the upside down piano hanging from the ceiling that I tripped up over something. Some raised tiles on the floor.

Turns out they were also an exhibition (who did the risk assessment on that eh?) and they were loose so I knocked a few out of place.

I assume it's meant to challenge what is considered art rather than look nice? (Because it clearly doesn't look nice).

Apparently enjoying Banksy means you've been brainwashed into only enjoying art that comes pre-packaged with cultural approval, rather than challenging yourself and society's norms.

So I thought I'd take a minute to answer the question that I know you've all been pondering ..... why the fuck did Banksy choose to exhibit in Glasgow of all places?

Well the good news is - he tells you at the start of the show.

So outside the Glasgow Gallery Of Modern Art sits a statue of a bloke on a horse. It's apparently the first Duke Of Wellington. I had to look this up of course, but it's been there since 1844. Lovely.

Some time in the 80's some cheeky chappie managed to pop a traffic cone on his head. Most amusing.

This was - of course - removed by teh council after a few days, but this unwittingly prompted the start of a running battle that's gone on for nearly 40-years now. The council have spent upto £10k per year doing proper elf-n-safety cone removals with cherry pickers etc, only for a new cone to appear on his head over the coming days. Sometimes the same night it had been removed. Occasionally the horse gets a cone too. Sometimes someone manages to get a cone on top of the current cone.

A decade or so ago, the council proposed a £6-figure design update that would add around 2.5m to the height of the plynth, lifting the statue in an attempt to prevent these shenanigans. It wasn't approved.

Mr Banksy suggests therefore that this is his favourite piece of publically-enhanced public artwork in the UK, and therefore the obvious choice for the location of his "show".

Here endeth your lesson.
