New 5-series

BMW have announced the new 5-series. Styling isn't great and there's one traditional ICE version - the 520i. The rest are PHEVs or fully electric. Not even sure if there will be a diesel hybrid.
I think I might have got my diesel purchase in just in time.

Isn't the 520i also a mild hybrid? The back end looks good but the front looks like a weird mish mash of the old 5 Series mixed with a 2 Series.

The front looks like a 1-series to me. Not offensive but a bit meek.
The old 520i was a mild hybrid, and I imagine the new one will be, but that's basically just 48V electrics so that the car can coast or cut the engine before it comes to a halt and the ancillaries still run.

Such a shame longer term.
I'm all for evs in the right environment but they really don't suit bigger countries.

Also thinking long term, even the semi pro mechanics of the forum would probably struggle to fix something hybrid or electric if it goes down

Less horrible than most of their recent models, but not exactly good looking.

People said the same thing about fuel injection, catalytic converters, variable valve timing, body control modules, etc.
Give it ten years, some smart cookie will reverse engineer the protocols, the private keys will leak, and so on...

First impressions on new BMWs are rarely anything other than meh these days, shame that this is more akin to a g42 gran coupe than the i7 g70.
Can’t help but feel that cars peaked at the start of this decade.
