Gumball 3000 - Edinburgh & London
Gumball 3000 - Edinburgh & London
So, looks like this year's Gumball starts in Edinburgh on the 10th before heading to London on the 11th. Regardless of who's taking part and all the baggage that goes with it, could be a chance to see some interesting cars before they head off. I'm guessing everything should be gathered in one place on the 10th for a nose around...
Cheers,
Mike.

Like you said, there's certainly baggage, but for having followed the Gumball around from Liège to Budapest in 2005 (?), I can confirm that it's a fun affair.
We went in my old 944, booked the same hotels as the organisers and managed to blag entries to all the parties by simply pretending we were in the event. In the night leg from the château outside Liège to Prague, we pulled into Carlo V just after the yellow Carrera GT, right on time for an early breakfast and long before most of the field arrived.
Good times.

I know there's literally nobody else going to this from here but my daughter is unfeasibly excited about seeing some hypercars. Looks like they'll be setup on George Street from 10am this Saturday.

They did a warm up event at Shelsley Walsh hill climb lat year, not sure if theyll do it again this time.
Some interesting cars, but an above average number of dick heads to be fair.

Re: Gumball 3000 - Edinburgh & London
Yeah, I just realised there's a higher-than-average chance of bumping in to Shmee for example...
I don't know how many cars will be there or how much of the street will be closed-off etc, but its looking like nice weather and we have lunch booked so the cars are just a bonus.
Cheers,
Mike.

The boy has expressed interest in going to this so i might go for a look.

Looks like they're parked-up in the St James Quarter before going to George Street from 10am.

I would possibly have gone up for a nose but am heading North to see my folks. Last few I watched on TV there was the odd good guy but they were mostly utter wanks.
Re: Gumball 3000 - Edinburgh & London
Poor choice of dinner venue… there’s a table of 30 gumballers here… shy, quiet, unassuming types…

Chiron sounds incredible. Bassiest rumble on a car I’ve ever heard.

I passed a wrapped something or other is watercolour shades of light green and pink with a Saltire on the roof. Might have been an Aston Martin but was past almost before I clocked it. Was about 9.30 and around Dunfermline so would have been tight to hit 10am if it was a Gunballer.
Re: Gumball 3000 - Edinburgh & London
I’ll post some pictures later but there’s an AM with that wrap in the race - Nessie and a Saltire, very cool looking. My girl was doing a charity run in the meadows today so she wanted a look at the cars again. I think the start was 11, if not a bit later from what I could see.Gavin wrote: ↑Sun Jun 11, 2023 11:08 am I passed a wrapped something or other is watercolour shades of light green and pink with a Saltire on the roof. Saw Shmee again, passed on warm regards from the forum collective.

Re: Gumball 3000 - Edinburgh & London
As expected, there was a decent array of supercars, but also, a lot of the same type of cars and not an awful lot of interesting, old (trying to think, apart from the classic Countach, a 458 was probably the oldest thing there, maybe the FF or Matt Armstrong's Lambo), or even quirky stuff. My kids absolutely loved it though and there were some great sights & sounds. Also pretty cool to see how popular the whole thing was with kids & adults. The car park where they were all left overnight and getting the liveries done had lots of kids hanging about the entrance/exit all weekend and along what was their route south today.

Cheers @Ascender not sure where I got the pink but that is definitely the one I saw en route.

Great pics

Whose the bigger bell-end; Shmee or DDE?
I know Shmee gets a lot of hate on here, but I don't mind the majority of his output, and he doesn't drive like a complete bell-end. DDE on the other hand seems to live off drama caused by being a complete bell-end. And unsurprisingly his Lambo is fucked and I'm sure completely unrelated to the fact it's continuously bounced off the redline while stationary over and over and over and over and over again...
Ferruccio must surely be spinning in his grave at the typical SVJ owner.
