Been recommended a specialist by my mate. They do BMW and Mercedes. Will call them in the morning. If I can get an independent report from them I’ll take it to bmw.

I wish damper "dynos" were common over here like they seem to be in euroland (even the ADAC trailer has one), then situations like this could be (speedily...) resolved without you having to battle guesswork and/or opinion from the other side.

That is good. There is a good specialist in Galashiels, HR Motors, lad who owns it is a trained BMW master tech iirc, my mate gets his M3 looked after there and has been really chuffed.

ITs back with BMW for the next stages. Awaiting response. I think it's the front dampers. Had a mechanic who specialises in German marques drive it - he concurs.

Really hope you get it sorted. The dealership experience has put me off BMW. Not sure if the cars are anymore complex than the VAG range but I've not had the same issues across 4-5 cars.

BMW care is variable. I find that smaller family owned franchises are great. I use Sandal Wakefield and they have been superb. Big group owned ones have been a bit shit.

Menzies in Stirling were great too but I see they've changed hands since I lived up there.

Move forward 3 weeks and…we’re no further forwards. I sent 3 emails last week that I had no response to. Finally lost it and called them yesterday afternoon. Told them I had completely run out of sense of humour and any faith that they can fix the car. I’ve told them I want to return the car for a refund. Emailed the following.

Hi xxxxxxxx,

I have had no contact from the dealer since your email.

I am at the point now where i am hating every minute that i drive the car. I have lost all confidence in the car. I returned from a trip to Newcastle yesterday in the the car and i just feel that the car does not drive anywhere near like it should be.There are extended wheel oscillations when the car hits a bump in the road. The Vibrations are still in my opinion being felt through the car. The car seems to pitch left to right on anything but the smoothest of tarmacs.

We have been trying to resolve this now for an extended period of time and i my confidence is low that we will be able to come to a satisfactory resolution that rectifies the issues in the car. I have lost count now of the amount of times that the car has been in dealerships to have the fault investigated. In retrospect i should have rejected the car many months ago. I am now at the point where I want out of the car.

I would therefore like to discuss my options on returning the car. I feel it does not meet the required standard that i believed would be assured by purchasing an approved used BMW. I furthermore feel that the level of service i have received in trying to rectify the issues with the car has not met the expected standards promised with an approved BMW vehicle. I discussed returning the vehicle previously with the supplying dealer and what they offered to me was to return the vehicle and pay off the outstanding finance. This would then write off the value of my previous vehicle that i traded in as a deposit to purchase this X5 (A 2013 BMW 318d Touring). In my view this was not an acceptable outcome which furthermore did not take into account the ongoing issues I have had with the car.

What options do we have?

Best regards,

Scott

I’d say you’ve been more than accommodating at this point, and given them every opportunity to sort this. Morally you’re well in your rights to have finance written off and trade in value back, possibly loosing some as admin fees etc. legally however I have no clue  hope something gets sorted.

A quick google of head of bmw customer service brings up profiles on LinkedIn, worth badgering someone on there? Or possibly calling out customer services on Twitter/threads etc?

Hello Scott

Thanks for your email to Mario. This has been passed to myself to respond to.

I'm afraid BMW Arnold Clark Kirkcaldy have advised they wouldn't look into the issue with the vibration any further as they feel they exhausted the investigation when they looked into this previously and feel the same outcome would be reached.

BMW Peter Vardy have advised as they've completed the repair on the vehicle, they'd advise for the vehicle to be looked at by the selling Centre.

As they're independently owned and run businesses, I'm unable to change this outcome. If you wanted a further opinion, your welcome to visit any BMW Approved Centre but we wouldn't look to cover the cost of this.

I understand this isn't the answer you were looking for and I'm sorry to disappoint you further.

If there's anything you need in the future, please let me know.

Kind regards

BMW
