Prompted by a journo highlighting that the carbon-ceramic option on the M3 Touring is £8k.

Option 4. However I could see the point if you were ocd about having your car and wheels etc clean permanently as I believe they produce less dust from use

I'm unsure as I've never been in a position to spec one so haven't researched it much. On big heavy powerful cars (pretty much anything new then) carbon ceramics can be worse for track days as they will gradually overheat and then you have a very big bill. They "only" cost £8000 to spec because they're heavily discounted when new but new pads and discs cost double that come replacement time. Then they're very fragile so you need to use those special long wheel lug things to remove the wheels as you don't want to chip the brakes. And then hope you never get a random stone or pebble chip it or get stuck between the pad and disc

Didn't Harry (or someone) explain that Ceramics work better on a road car cos they'll last forever, whilst steelies should be used on race cars and treated as a consumable ie replaced when the pads are..

I noticed Harris was the only one who said they were a must have on the wagon. Most journos reckoned the current M brakes were more than good enough for the road and fine for occasional track days.

Obvs I voted no.7, but I can't remember why I'm associated with that sentiment

Probably mis-remembering, but I think you had “bigger brakes will just slow you down” as your evo forum signature

I've tended to avoid signatures and don't recognise it, but then maybe I'm just doing a Boris.
