I can see why. That kind of quote fir shelves and wardrobes wood make you do one of those drawn out oak-ays, before thinking he might be a beech taking the Mick. You might even b-elm at him!

We had wardrobes done about 10 years ago. That price seems right for fully custom made. Sorry. This isn't IKEA.

BiL has just exchanged contracts on his new house this week, about £4m. SDLT at that level seems similar to your scottishlandshire system.

His £4m house is only a 4-bed place though. Are houses generally £1m per bedroom up your way too ?

It does seem to converge at £bonkers, although he'd still pay £40k more tax up here.

A £1m house would pay £41k tax down south, and £78k up here.

And no we don't need to pay £1m per bedroom, but thankfully I have zero desire to live anywhere near Lahndahn.

Moving house is horrible, I'm hoping we won't have to do it again, ideally ever, but for at least 20 years!

Nah you're right. The master bedroom has a 3m ceiling and we wanted one of those ladders that slides along the bookcase to get at the higher shelves. Fancy but worth it.

I think the proper life hack as you get older is to own not a lot so when you do move it really doesnt become an issue.

I probably haven't helped by going off for a stag weekend the day after we moved.

I can't think of any situation where I would consider paying £12k for fitted wardrobes...

Is it like with kitchens where Wren quote you £21k for a kitchen, then drop their offer to £13k when you tell them Howdens are offering it for that?
