Passed away 12th Feb aged 99. I hadn't realised until my Dad mentioned it yesterday.

Very unlikely any of you had heard of her, but she was a very successful and influential cyclist in the fifties. Held a lot of long distance records some of which still stand today.

Personal connection - my gran was also a racing cyclist and at times held some of those records too. That's my gran (my Dad's Mum) on the rhs in the third picture.

What an obituary and what a life. I love reading about athletes from back in the day when things were just so much more simple - no high tech equipment, diet or training plans. Inspirational stuff some of her achievements, how cool is it that your gran was a racing cyclist

It's quite funny about our Nan, between 1937-39 she broke 8 WRRA records, 5 on the tandem and 3 solo. Stand-out rides include Lands End to London in 19hrs 56min... on a bike that was basically as light and nimble as a Boris bike
