Has been a long running problem. There are articles back to 2014 noting insurers were refusing to cover them.
Interestingly my premium actually went down when I replaced the stolen pre-facelift model for a facelift one as it has the new style key which is reportedly less easy to boost the signal from. Still at a ridiculous level though - next renewal not until December this year though but that article doesn't suggest it is going to go down any time soon...

If more insurers join in Land Rover might actually bother making a better system. They’re all gaming the system, which manufacturer wouldn’t want to sell a few more thousand cars per year for minimal effort all paid for by insurance.

Is this just London or nation-wide ? A RR was an outside choice for my future but this is totally absurd.

Correct. RR is Rolls Royce. LR/RR or FFRR refers to the Range Rover.

London primarily. If you want one I'd get one and just make sure you have a third party tracker with immobiliser fitted.

Nah that's only if you go for idiot spec. A D350 with ample options is £116,000

Yeah I originally typed FFRR, but then wasn’t sure if RRS was similarly affected.

On the Disco4 you could go through a process of button presses that stopped the key acting as a smart key. So you had to press the buttons on the fob to lock/unlock. A bit rubbish to lose that feature, but more secure. Also lots of places now sell little faraday bags to keep your keys in at night that prevent (or significantly reduce the ability for) their signal being boosted to facilitate a vehicle theft.

The ultimate problem is the ability to code a new key in seconds via the OBD port which then allows you to start the car. They should just have the option to revert to a physical key or at least an aftermarket option (aka Lambo wing to get around the regs) to fit a physical lock to the OBD port. That would stop it overnight.

You can get OBD port locks that require a key to open. Question is how good they are and whether that'll make them try to get into the house instead or vandalise the car.

I looked at that but they all seemed crap to be honest.
