Charity muggers at my door.

I can't stand charity muggers on the high st, all their bullshit "sales" tactics, and just generally getting in the way. But now I've just had some knock on my door!

Do one. I'm not signing up to pay for more of you to keep coming to my door! Is it the 80s again with people knocking on doors to sell shit? Presumably because they now know people work from home...

Ask me why I've been paying Shelter a tenner a month for the last 6 months

I don't usually get stopped in the street, which is lucky because I'm apparently a soft touch.

im assuming it's the same reason I do. About 15 years ago an absolute 10/10 hottest girl I'd ever seen touched my arm, looked into my eyes and asked if I wanted to marry her.... I'd signed up before I even knew what I'd done.

I'm usually very good at ignoring them on the street, but sometimes they use a more creative approach which doesn't allow you to avoid them, in which case I do feel slightly bad when they run through their sales pitch and (when I can get a word in) I tell them I'm not interested. There is not a cat in hell's chance I'm signing up for a DD on one of those things.

Knocking on the door would mean far more effort to avoid them, so good for them I guess, but it's still going to be a waste of time with me.

Get a Ring Doorbell…

I have 4 or 5 DD’s set up to various charities, set up through their Web Sites.

It makes it easier to say no to the chuggers

Had someone at the door a few weeks back. I felt a bit of an arse stood there while they were very bouncy and enthusiastic giving their pitch knowing I was going to say no but they didn’t give me a chance to speak until they’d finished! I said I have a few charity DDs already, which I do, so I can’t do any more.

I’ll give a few quid but I’ll never sign up monthly to anything I don’t have to.
Also has anyone else noticed how ridiculous their TV ads are getting? They used to ask for £5 a month but now I’ve even seen £40 a month on one

I have a ring camera, but I was in so just went to the door. I told them I already donated to their charity which got rid of them, but the whole concept of bothering and guilting people to pay for more of them just pisses me off. If I'm walking down the street minding my own business, then fuck off. Same goes for my home.

The ones that REALLY piss me off are those that purposely wait til you've just walked past them before launching into an "excuse me" to try and get you to stop and turn back so you're not rude ignoring someone. One of those has had a piece of my mind in the strategy before!

My first sales job was knocking doors. Certainly sets you up for a lifetime of knockbacks

Add in those at the door who launch into their patter before even asking if now is a good time. I've literally broken away from webex calls and dinner before to get the door, only to hear the same old opening lines "Don't worry, I'm not selling anything, just wondering if...."

I had this happen last Friday. Opened the door, spiel started without so much as a how'dyoudo. Looked at him for about four seconds as he talked, then without even having had the opportunity to get a single word out, shut the door in his face and loudly locked it.

Then went upstairs and had to explain to the youthy, non-london exposed colleagues I was in a call with, what 'fucking chugger cunts' are.

I'd probably have been less aggro about it if I wasn't still feeling grotty from a flu I'd had most of the week.

Not that I have much patience for them when I'm not grumpy...

Yep, and also piling on the moral and emotional blackmail to the point of "it's your fault there's suffering because you haven't donated". There's only one that has/had any positivity about it, showing animals before and after they'd been in the charity's care, how they've gone from sickly poorly to fit and well, happy and smiley.

Were a study to be carried out I could imagine daytime tv adverts being cited as a major cause of suicide. They bombard people incessantly all day with "you're a bad person for not doing enough for others, give us all your money - what do you need it for? You're retired/sick/disabled so can't go anywhere anyway - then fck off and die (after selling us your house to get the money to put into a funeral plan that won't cover the cost of it".

My standard response is I’m a volunteer scout leader and that takes all my spare time and money

We had Jehovah’s Witnesses for a long time coming to the door where I used to live.

First it was just 2 or 3 people which was ok. Then they employed a little boy of about 7 or so and you didn’t want to be rude. Then a beautiful women in knee high boots, short skirt and tight top

I had a stand up argument with some prick as he shouted “you clearly don’t care about dead kids” when I said I wasn’t interested in some charity guff by Liverpool Street Station so I educated him about all his charity money and asked what he had ever done.

Also, when they make a bottle neck at supermarkets, there are far better ways to get people to help your cause.

Dave!

Ideally you want them to go away without being put on a register yourself. ;)

I get them all the time, had jehovahs witnesses a couple of days ago and have had various charities over the years.

My standard response is to interrupt their patter as quickly as possible with "Can I just stop you there, I appreciate your time, however I already give to charity and am not in a position to support any additional ones". They usually say thanks and head off to their next door. Unless they're Jehovahs witnesses, who launch straight back into another line of questioning.

Last time the JW's came to my door, I told them that I'd be dead and all my kids would be dead if I was a member of their cult so please don't knock again.
