To-Do List Program?

Post by Ascender »

I'm looking for an app to manage task/actions across multiple projects for multiple clients. It doesn't need to have any planning functionality, but a daily view of what's due/overdue and an easy way to filter by client and tags would be handy.

I've tried Microsoft's stuff (Planner, To-Do), made my own thing in Excel, but everything is a bit clunky, so I'm guessing there must be something way better out there.

Ideally it will run on Mac, Windows, iPad etc and be a one-off purchase rather than something else I need to pay a monthly fee for.

Any recommendations? I recall ToDoist and OmniFocus being good back in the day but its been a while since I looked at this sort of thing.
Cheers,

Mike.

We use Monday.com, though I still can't be arsed to abandon my trusty excel spreadsheet...

There seem to be functions in iOS and Outlook which I could use, but I just type them out in Notepad 😄

Yeah, I've also been using Apple's Notes which is good but not very "visual".

Looks like it all comes back to the basic and well known programs doesn't it...

Evernote? Can apply tags to do filtering. Not so much the day view though, I don't think.

Things!!!

I've been using it for years... it's a GSD app - 'get shit done' which has been developed with the aim of creating to-do lists and managing tasks. You can easily create projects with sub-tasks within it, and assign tags, which I find useful for categorising clients, admin tasks, sales etc.

It allows you to easily bump things into whichever day you need to do them, set deadlines, reminders etc. Above all, it's one of those Mac apps that's really nicely designed across all devices. It's also a one-off purchase per device. Only negative is that it's not available on Windows.

@mik - I've never really got on with Outlook Tasks, but its integration with 365 might be something to look at. I'll have another look.

@JonMad - I've not used Evernote in a looooong time, will add that to the list for this afternoon.

@Gavster - Things looks nice and the fact there's no Windows version isn't a negative at all!

Microsoft Planner works for us, "bucket" per customer, can have assignees, tags, start/end dates, recurrence, etc. Can attach things, comment, have checklists within tasks, etc. If you use Microsoft To-Do then you can have assigned tasks show up there, and quick reminders (eg do expenses) I do as tasks in there. Can also have flagged email show up too if you use that as a way to remind you to do things.

For personal stuff, Apple Reminders because it's super easy to use Siri to chuck things in there.
