Have you measured it yet? You said you would!

Not by much though - 2.4m x 4.8m to 2.5m x 5.0m

Re: Parking space widths
So to the centre of the white lines it'll be 2.4m...
But good effort for actually going out and checking it!

The signs say park between the white lines, not on them.Swervin_Mervin wrote: ↑Thu Feb 23, 2023 9:15 pm So to the centre of the white lines it'll be 2.4m...

Re: Parking space widths
unless your car is 2.4m wide, you'll still be parking between the lines, which are at 2.4m centres.Broccers wrote: ↑Thu Feb 23, 2023 9:18 pmThe signs say park between the white lines, not on them.Swervin_Mervin wrote: ↑Thu Feb 23, 2023 9:15 pm So to the centre of the white lines it'll be 2.4m...

Reckon the average persons waist has grown by more than 10cm since the 1970's let alone cars!
How about not having a sig at all?
Re: Parking space widths
Broccers says they are small, they turn out to be small, people on the internet say they are usually bigger. Provided with evidence they are now experts on where the measurements are taken.

Re: Parking space widths
if you're too retarded to understand simple concepts like the width of the space will be to the centre of each line, that's your outlook.Broccers wrote: ↑Thu Feb 23, 2023 10:54 pm Broccers says they are small, they turn out to be small, people on the internet say they are usually bigger. Either way, the chart shows that space is normal.
Re: Parking space widths
Trust Broccers to measure them and then argue about that.
The air above the white line is space into which you can open your door - you have to take that into account

Re: Parking space widths
If someone parks on the line though it’s deemed bad parking, I know that none of the car body should overhand your bay so when ticketed do they measure to the line centre ? I was caught for this a long while but but was at least 30cm over so was my fault.

If this was me, id have typed out the first few words, then realised how dumb it would sound and deleted the post.V8Granite wrote: ↑Fri Feb 24, 2023 6:58 am If someone parks on the line though it’s deemed bad parking, I know that none of the car body should overhand your bay so when ticketed do they measure to the line centre ? Re: Parking space widths
I've always assumed the bay to be "between the lines" also. I'm going to suggest therefore that the width of Broccers parking bay is 230cm (which is "short stay" as per Rich's post), but the pitch of the bays is 240cm.V8Granite wrote: ↑Fri Feb 24, 2023 6:58 am If someone parks on the line though it’s deemed bad parking, I know that none of the car body should overhand your bay so when ticketed do they measure to the line centre ? Re: Parking space widths
It's much easier to think of it as the distance between the centrelines of the bays. Broccers finds this all a bit too difficult and thinks this isn't a disabled bay because it's not 3.6m between the lines:
Re: Parking space widths
Agree completely but whilst we are now deep in semantics - (in an attempt to dumb things down for john Q citizen comprehension?) the terminology used is incorrect.Sundayjumper wrote: ↑Fri Feb 24, 2023 8:10 am It's much easier to think of it as the distance between the centrelines of the bays.
As you aren't allowed to park on the white lines, or have your bodywork outside of the unpainted area, I would say it is correct to describe the disabled parking bay width above as 2.4m (guess), but the pitch between the bays is 3.6m to provide extra room for ingress/egress.
It's like this one - the parking bay width looks "standard", but the pitch between them is greater (which is obviously positive).
