Placeholder for Jag end of term report
It's just failed the MOT on handbrake actuator (£3k as you have to drop the subframe etc.), bushes, bearings, rear tie rods and the things they didn't bother to record.
As it's about £6k to repair, it's going on FB marketplace and I need a new car sharpish as the handbrake failure means it has no MOT.
Merry fucking Christmas.

Mini is too small. Vito is too big, Cayenne is too expensive. There's a very odd E90 330i SE near me with cloth seats which seems an odd choice.

How about a 2011 (MK3) Focus with the fabulous 1.6 Ecoboost engine anddddddd....... heated seats? I'm also probably over 200 miles away from you so probably not that convenient.

You only need to lower the subframe about 3 inch to replace the EPB actuator on a X350, it's not a massive job, (tank straps off, filler pipe slackened off, rear boxes off hangers, shocker bolts out) I'm sure the actuators can be had pretty cheaply now as well.Jimmy Choo wrote: ↑Wed Dec 14, 2022 2:10 pm It's just failed the MOT on handbrake actuator (£3k as you have to drop the subframe etc.), bushes, bearings, rear tie rods and the things they didn't bother to record.

Rear tie rods are cheap, old ones might be seized so chop them off, bits are cheap enough now, what else has it failed on?
If you have been quoted 6k they are massively taking the piss.

It's a shopping list of issues. Handbrake, all the bearings, rear discs and pads, diff is leaking, steering rack is pissing fluid out. £6k is definitely more than it would actually cost but the car is worth more in parts so I'm going to strip it.
The replacement is inbound.

This is always the fear with the older more interesting cheap cars, that it's a time bomb. Shit luck to be the one who has it when it goes off.. I'd be with you on cutting and running, especially if it's worth something in parts. Hope the replacement is good!

That Alfa is lovely, and Jimmy only has good experiences with his previous ones, so I expect it is a done deal!

Another forum Jag death!
I think when you own one of these you accept you may simply lose your entire investment.

I did look at an XJ8 but it had some issues that would be the same again so it was time to cut my losses.
