Defibrilator cabinets

So my day got a bit too exciting, after a friend tripped over a table leg and took a fall, clonked his head a bit but did something unpleasant to his arm/shoulder sufficient to require a 999 call and an ambo. So I was asked to go fetch the defib from the community centre up the road "just in case". These things are in a code locked cab and you have to call 999 to get the code.
Which. Took. Forever. When they actually answered, the operator had to run through some process to verify the active job it was needed for, before they'd give me the code, and then I was told "well it could be any of these 4 codes", despite having given then the cabinet ID.
Honestly if he'd have actually needed it, by the time I got the code and got it back to the pub, he'd have been dead anyway.
I'm thankful he didn't and isn't.

That's just crazy. Surely in this day and age there's an easier & better way to control access to potentially life saving kit like this?

Ridiculous that you were asked to go get it for a head & arm injury. Defibrillators are for cardiac arrests.

Wouldn't a paramedic or ambulance have a defibrillator ?

Well I did think that but I’m not medical lol. It’s what the 999 operator asked for.

It'd be all right if it wasn't for scum vandalising and stealing things
I was almost expecting "it could be any one of these four numbers. You get three attempts." I can imagine the system with the codes not being compatible with the call logging system just because
Not a nice situation, glad he/you didn't need it.

Our local box leaked which has ruined the machine. Bit annoying as we just spunked over £100 on a new battery. You'd think they would be mendable.
Have to say, I would love to know how often they have been used and how often they worked. Having said that, if it saves your loved in you won't care how many are sitting idle.

How many lives do they need to save to be worth it I guess is the question.
https://evidence.nihr.ac.uk/alert/use-o ... -survival/ evidence suggests that early access to defib increases cardiac arrest survival rates
I've certainly seen patients who have been successfully defibrillated by an AED.

To be fair if it works it’s doing them out of business so fair play to them!

That, and given that funerals tend to be very stressful for people, often older people, it legit makes sense for them to have one.
Particularly when they see how much a coffin fucking costs....
