A mate of mine is now a full on lady, expect cant have babies obv but is still a woman!!!!

One of my old friends is now non-binary. According to me, their pronouns are now She-fuck-they/her-fuck-them as I keep on getting it wrong. When they came back to the UK for a visit, I got to meet their partner. I asked beforehand which pronouns I should use for them I asked if they were She/her, they/them or bitch/please.

They opted for the latter.

I have pronouns on my sig at work and the other week explained to my 50ish geordie colleague why he should as well, and he totally agreed after I gave him the explanation my daughter gave me.

Took me ages to get my head round even the difference between gender and sex, and tbh I am still not there but happily my daughter realises it is because I am a bit thick, rather than a homophobic arsehole.

My TT keyring is a rainbow Fjallraven one as well, if that counts?

Honestly I had to have a long convo about gender and sex with my folks when my cousin went non-binary and they found it a bit of a mind-bending concept when they'd spent 75 years blissfully living with binary gender terms and I'm not entirely sure they fully understood that he could still be hetero at the same time

I get the difference between sex and gender. I don't get non-binary at all though. Nor pronouns, for the most part.

I don't really get it all, but I'm not bothered enough to kick up any sort of fuss.

I will respect everyone's views, lifestyle choices etc so long as nobody is getting hurt.

So with that in mind, genuine question... what benefit to anyone is there by me putting my pronouns in a work email signature? For example...

I'm on the DEI commitee at work (yes, yes just a subtle addition to my woke credentials) and we decided to start suggesting that everyone adds their preferred pronouns into their email sig so that it's normalised for any NB or trans staff.

Purely voluntary so not everyone does it but it does help set an inclusive atmosphere.
