There are vids all over Twitter from multiple angles.
Pilots would barely have had time to register what was happening. Which is good. RIP.

According to reports I’ve read from eye witnesses, there was another fighter in front of the B17 that the one that crashed was flying in formation with. Possible scenario is he was watching him for change of direction etc and they’ve both ended up at the wrong place at the wrong time.
