Quite how the mods there interpreted your posts in the way they did is beyond me. You did have plenty of actual fascists to argue with which I’m sure will not have been doing your mental health any good so perhaps it’s a blessing.

So you are actually banned? Temp or perm?

(I used the HSV section of PH when I had the VXR8, but never used much outside of there and haven’t been active on there for years).

Yeah, permanently banned (on two accounts now, after I posted under a new name to ask why I had been banned  ). Original account was banned for hate speech/incitement.

full disclosure I had copped 2 temp bans after some heated discussion in the thread about what’s happening in gaza.

Neither was for anything I said about Israel but I let myself get baited into personally insulting people, which they then reported.

The perm ban came after this comment in a thread about folk not having children that had got a bit ideological. (please don’t ban me matty)

Which was a ref to replacement theory.

I had acquired a bit of a fan club over the course of my time posting there and can only assume that one of them has some sway with the mods. It’s happened to a few other more progressive posters in NP&E.

As Jobbo said, it’s probably for the best. That argumentative streak of mines isn’t my healthiest trait .

You never want to be 'known' on there because there are too many weirdo stalkers. Bit like Twitter I guess

There is the horseshoe theory, that extreme left & extreme right are actually quite close to each other.

I’ve always thought that horseshoe theory was invented by centrists so they can justify doing fuck all tbh

Here's a very amusing thread: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/top ... 443753&i=0
So two PHers discovered that doing it back to back isn't as exciting as when they were in their respective boys boarding schools, and one of them had a hissy fit over it on the internet?

What a bunch of weirdos. And yes, I know that's not what it's about, but dear lord that place is tedious to read.

Anyway, Twitter tried to replace twitter links with x links and it went about we well as you'd expect. This is amateur hour stuff, even by my standards, which is hilarious because I'm not even a developer.

I forgot this thread existed - FAO @IanF

In the latest "Oh Lord, that's pathetic" Musk is reportedly going to remove the like/reply counts - apparently because he's sick of being publicly owned by his fanbase on the platform he paid $44bn for.

That's actually a really good idea - removing likes from social media has been shown to have a postive effect on users mental health. Also great for critical thinking because it removes the social proof.

Yeah, but the algorithm for twitter will still push what Musk wants to push (as per most social media, divisive stuff), so it probably won't actually improve things when nazi-adjacent cumstains saying that the jews are trying to get brown people to take over the west gets sent to the top, quote tweeted by Musk with "Concerning"...so I'm doubtful on that.

Also, the endorphin rush people get from having hundreds of likes is one of the main reasons people do social media - just look at Redditors.

...or don't, they're a weird bunch.

So it might just cause more people to leave twitter. Now that would definitely improve their mental health!

im not really a twitter user, but i can imagine it getting pretty frustrating reading in full some long rambling posts that turn out to be pointless/unrelated - the likes give you a rough idea if they are worth reading.

plus life gives you feedback - expressions/ interruptions /laughs /etc.. it’s presumably going to be a bit cold without any feedback - it’s not like our cosy little forum where i know what sort of reaction i’ll get from who.

Ultimately he'll probably remove the ability for anyone to post but himself, in gradual steps. It will contain just adverts for Temu and Elon being edgy.

Oh my fucking god, Musk is truly the dumbest man alive.

https://apnews.com/article/x-sues-adver ... 238739453e

https://www.wired.com/story/elon-musk-x ... vertisers/
X today filed a lawsuit against a group of major advertisers for allegedly conspiring to withhold advertising dollars from the social media platform, which, since Elon Musk’s takeover, has been seen as more amenable to hosting controversial content.

The suit, filed in federal court in Texas, says dozens of advertisers followed the recommendation of a key advertising coalition, Global Alliance for Responsible Media (GARM), to boycott buying ads on X since Musk bought the company. The suit says this turn of events cost the company billions of dollars in revenue. The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages for violation of US antitrust law.

The right-wing video site Rumble, founded more than 10 years ago as an alternative to YouTube and positioned as a platform “immune to cancel culture,” announced on Tuesday that it had filed a similar lawsuit. “GARM was a conspiracy to perpetrate an advertiser boycott of Rumble and others, and that's illegal,” the company posted on its X account.
Neat, so Twitter and Rumble want to coerce advertisers to have their brands next to nazis, racists and misogynists.

Fucking funny how Mr Free Speech Absolutist and Force Of The Market changes his tune when the free market uses it's free speech to tell him the won't spend money with him

Elon Musk has turned absolutely fucking mental. Not only was he re-tweeting posts which stated Imane Khalef is a man, but he now thinks he's an authority on the UK. I was sticking with Twitter for the long haul because it's a great platform, but it's turned into an intolerable right-wing 'truth' hellscape, and that's saying something becuase Twitter was always a bit hellish . I went over to threads to see how it's going over there and it is absolutely rammed with people jumping onto the platform saying "I'm done with Twitter".

I had such high hopes for Twitter under Musk as the platform really had been struggling, but he's totally fucked the best element of Twitter, which was the open conversation.

Anyone else join BlueSky? Very different vibe and feel. Also a lot slower paced, which I like.
