Recommend me a Monitor

Post by dinny_g »

Morning all,

Never bough a monitor for home so don't really know what to look for. Just for home office use, not Gaming or anything Video content etc

£100 to £150 ideally and from Amazon would be better

I don't think you'll get a 27" screen for your budget which is the minimum i would want to use as a single.

ETA ignore me there's loads on Amazon lol

I have the 24" version of this and have no complaints. 27" is almost within your budget though..... (edit: oops - thought you had said £200 not £150)

Evonomics... ;)

I will use both the Laptop Screen and the Monitor so it's not for single use. I have three screens at work so 1 at home is a bit of a ball ache. Alt and Tab is all well and good but not good enough.

I have a Lenovo T15 so... you know... matching and all that

I have a few LG ultrawide 29” monitors and find them pretty good. They vary in price regularly so I’m sure they’d fall in budget if you wait a day or so. Two types, not that obvious what the difference is but one has a much heavier stand with height adjustment.

For home I find having speakers in the monitor useful. Not so relevant in the office because I’d turn the sound off there, but do check whether what you’re buying has them if they’re useful to you.

I bought a full hd 24" curved Samsung for £100 last time they had some Amazon prime day deals. Superb for the money.

I've gone with a 24" Lenovo - not quite the same as Mik's but similar.

Thanks all

I've got a pair of 32" samsungs and hate going into the office where I only have 2 24" screens. I'd like to try a mahoosive widescreen but for now, it's well out of my price range.

Timely thread as my wife starts a new role in November which includes some working from home. She'll need a monitor to be effective and I've been toying with the idea of offering her my 2x23" FHDs and getting a larger single for me.

Either way we'll be ordering a monitor.

I have a 34" ultrawide Samsung in the office, but it's flat. I might try a curved one next time but I find flat isn't problematic.

Everyone's talking size, no one is talking resolution.

24" and above needs 1440p at least. No exceptions, it looks horrible on 1080p when you're so close to it. Not to mention how much more usable space you have with that resolution.

The 29” ultrawide LGs in the office are fine at 1080P; my Samsung 34” ultrawide at 1440P is ‘nicer’ but for reading documents it’s no different, frankly.

The Samsung was 2.5x the price of the LGs, bought to see if the cost difference was worthwhile. Call me a mean boss but I don’t think it is 😄

Which is all I'll be using it for so I'm sure 1440 will be fine. Arrives later so I'll know..

Windows is pretty good with font scaling & smoothing though isn't it?

Unlike macOS...
Cheers,

Mike.

Glad I went for 24” - plenty big.

Nice resolution, perfect for my needs. Very happy

I went with a Dell S2721DGFA and recommend. Not the cheapest but good for both office and gaming.

If I was only using office or could warrant a monster gfx I'd prob go with biggest curved widescreen I could afford. Almost went for https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/353518037224 ... media=COPY
