So, turns out the children "might" have climbed "a little" on the wall hung shelves in my daughter's room. My wife noticed that the uprights were pulled clean out of the walls with the wall anchors still attached. There's now two neat rows of seven holes in the wall and the damage is quite substantial.

What are the options for repairing/fixing other than replastering the whole wall?

The wall is in front of the old outer wall and there's quite a difference in depth of the void between the plasterboard and the inner wall.

It is a classic box room (2x2.5m) so very limited options for avoiding hanging things on the walls.

Thoughts and ideas welcome!

Just fill them. You may need to do a new square of board on some timber (don't forget scrim tape) on the bigger ones, but I'd just get some easy-fill (not crappy polyfilla which is stupidly harder than the rest of the wall) and fill them.

They look small enough to fill and sand smooth. You can also get fibrous plaster plugs to wedge in bigger holes before filling.

I'm not the DIY type but even I can get a decent finish on bits like that.

Will the repairs be strong enough to rehang the shelves? Very little option to hang them any other way.

@DeskJockey can you shift the fixings ove 10cm to get a fresh section? (For them to break)

That might just about be doable, but will compromise entry a bit and obviously leave a gap. Problem is the door opening inwards along the wall in the picture. We're thinking about what options we have.

Cut big square out of wall, put timbers in wall where shelves will be fit, replace plasterboard, overfill cuts and sand smooth, paint and fit shelves to timbers through board. Only way that will work now the plasterboard has been damaged

Can you back the shelves with a large board ? Then use far more fixings to spread the load ?
