We'll make suggestions and you'll just tell us they won't work because X. Why not list out you full requirements and streamline the whole thing.

Buy absolutely anything at all, don’t drive it, but post lots on here about it. The fun comes from the posting rather than the ownership.

Things that are in budget, economical (right foot heaviness notwithstanding) and should be fun:

Alfa Romeo MiTo 1.4TB Quadrofoglio Verde
Fiesta Zetec S
BMW 123d (ISTR evo really liking it)
Honda Civic Type S
Peugeot 208 GTI

Any of those catch your eye?

Try a Smart Fortwo manual, they are a hoot to drive.

I had a short drive last summer and would have one for running around.

I have a strange itch for one as well as an iQ.

What are we classing as economical?

I mean you can get over 30 mpg from a 130i and 8k is probably the right territory for a good one

I'd set 50+ MPG as a search criteria on AT. Whether that's achievable is another point entirely.
