I'd heard he'd been 'attacked' but that could mean almost anything
"Stabbed in the neck" sounds pretty serious though...

I don’t know why but I thought he died years ago and was more surprised to hear he’s still around

Crikey, I saw he’d been attacked but didn’t see in what way. Doesn’t sound hopeful
He survived the fatwa; fingers crossed he can survive the US’s own fanatics.

Just reading, but apparently Iranian state media added $600k to the bounty on him as recently as 2016, so I'm not sure that the fatwa is really over with.
In surgery though, so hopefully he pulls through.
Makes me think I ought to read Satanic Verses.

I tried once and just couldn't get on with it.

I used to feel a similar sense of obligation with War and Peace
Having thumbed through several pages of family trees (the first pages of the book) in a WH Smith's years ago I quickly realised it wasn't for me

They’re saying he was stabbed between 10 and 15 times.. doesn’t sound good. I’m actually in New York at the moment and it doesn’t seem to be on most peoples radar, but then his book was published in the 80’s so lots of people probably haven’t even heard of him

Perhaps foolish, but nowadays I think if someone is "in surgery" then they're gonna be fine. The wonders of modern medicine and all that.

It sounds pretty grim, but he's still alive albeit on a ventilator. I couldn't believe it when I heard this morning that the bounty from Iran is still out there and up for grabs so to speak.

He wrote something that insulted some people's choice of magic sky fairy and over 35 years later they're still holding a grudge and some willing to kill him for it
