Redundant fans - if one fan dies mid corner, apparently it only makes....1800kg of downforce

Why have I never listened to their podcast after watching there occasional YouTubes?

Thanks for the reminder, good fun.

Apparently the whole rear wing is also for redundancy so that if both fans die you still have some downforce. And the design has been type approved so that it’s road legal

DaveE wrote: Mon Jun 27, 2022 9:47 am Star of the show for me was very much that McMurtry

Hearing the fan winding up while it was on the starting line and then the way it went up the hill
It reminded me of Hypnodisc spinning up before a Robot Wars fight

Neither fan nor 1000bhp electric power are new in concept, but the overall size (particularly the width) is very different. Awesome to see something so effective from a relative “no-one” Irish/British company. 8-)

Wonder if they will take it to the Ring to try and take the 919Evo record?

It claims:
Track driving range 30-60 mins
Road equivalent range WLTP 350 miles
Which strikes me as a bit short for multiple 'Ring passes, but then it also claims to charge at 600kw so if they take a marine diesel generator with them...

919 record is 5:19 so enough for 4-5 laps if you’re doing that sort of pace. I’d imagine tyres will limit them more

I know they aren’t actually slow, and I am sure that from the inside it’s a real buzz…. but somehow this kinda fails to translate to the exterior cameras. Has always confused me. I guess it’s far more a “be there” event. :?
@mik You’ve been watching the wrong videos mate, Goodwoof was last month.. 😛

I didn’t go to FOS this year, even though I’m a GRRC member, I’ve not been to a car event this year tbh 🥴..

Going to London Concours ( https://londonconcours.co.uk/event/itinerary/ ) tomorrow if anyone is going or about afterwards..

Oops - a future-looking Freudian Slap, as I was about to see the McMurty canine it up the hill :?:

Lovely little clip that nicely demonstrates the ridiculous cornering speed

The Viper was v. impressive, the McMurtry looks like a Cappuccino-sized Keaton-era Batmobile.

Look at the way the marshalls at the start line jump/flinch in surprise with how fast the McMurty pulls away

Maybe they weren't ready for him to leave at that point!

Aye, they looked like they didn't expect him to leave then. Some of the ice cars sounded quieter than it on that vid.
