MacBook Pro batteries and second hand value

My work laptop is a MacBook Pro. Its gets refreshed every 4 years. That time has just arrived and I've been offered the old one for £328. It's a 2.3GHz i5, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, 13" display
That doesn't sound bad, not least as one I can let the kids use, except for
- a few of the keys are dodgy (I now use asn external keyboard whenever I can)
- the battery only lasts about 30 minutes
I checked the battery health as per
https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201585. (About This Mac / System Report / Power)
I get this:
Charge Information:
Fully Charged: Yes
Charging: No
Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 2288
State of Charge (%): 100
Health Information:
Cycle Count: 318
Condition: Service Recommended
Can anyone with a Mac do the same and tell me what the full charge capacity is supposed to be and how long your battery lasts. I'm guessing somewhere near 5000 may as per the example at the link above. £200 for a new battery doesn't make a £328 laptop (with a dodgy keyboard) seem like such good value. I see on eBay they are around £600 for the same spec, with a warranty.

Given how Mac's are put together, a new battery and a new keyboard may well be quite pricey. They also aren't exactly easy to work on. I can't recall offhand if the battery is included with the top case on those models though (IE replace keyboard and battery with one part)
Take it to an authorised Apple repair shop and they them to quote (on the understanding that it's speculative) and see what they come back with.

What model year is? Check out OWC and iFixit for details of what you can/can't replace and an idea of cost.

Ah, interesting. 2017
Cheaper than Apple, obviously, who look to be quoting £199 minimum

That's annoying as they had an extended warranty available on that keyboard for 4(?) years - they'd have replaced the whole top case and battery FOC...
Might be worth having a quick support chat with them to check?

hmm, my current Mac is indicated as registered : 11/15/2018, so maybe I could take it in and get that looked at, outside of any work process.
edit: that link doesn't say anything about replacing the battery...?

Its part of the top case so is replaced as part of the process.
Do a quick chat online with them - they should be able to tell you straight away based on your serial number.

It's letting me make an appointment for that service, based on logging in with my Apple ID and selecting that Mac, so that's promising.

Good catch on the warranty thing - I've been out of the Apple ecosystem for so long that I want even aware of that

Macs are ok to work on thanks to the guides and parts from companies like iFixit. Get yourself a decent set of small screwdriver bits and you're halfway there.
