Bathurst 12 hour live.

Post by RobYob »

GT3 race is three months later this year and started earlier so plenty of night running at the mountain.

Weirdly I was just chatting about Bathurst with my BIL in Oz last week. Hadn’t realised until I got the wheel how feckin technical the mountain section is. heavily influenced by narrow track and no run-off, it is really hard to carry speed up the climb without a slight devotion from the ideal line, or a smidge too much throttle causing you to clip a wall, and waaaay to easy to lock a wheel on the descent and ruin your turn-in.

Kudos to the men & women that race there. 😎

Oh yeah, Bathurst is right up there in terms of terrifying levels of donotfuckthisupetness with the Nurburgring. I've only driven/walked it at road speed and it still feels silly tight up and over the mountain. The run down is also very steep. One day I want to get a fast run at it, pity there's no equivalent of touristenfahren. Although you'd be sweeping debris off the track 24/7 for the first few years of opening 😆

Possibly not a mustang! Possibly a space frame race car with mustang styling?

The IRC GT SS was designed by the highly experienced team at PACE Innovations as a Sports Sedan variant to the existing IRC GT, which made its debut earlier this year. In order to meet Australian Sports Sedan standards, the IRC GT SS runs a Mustang silhouette with a six litre engine. The chassis also runs on a larger brake package, bigger wheels and tyres, and features increased horsepower over the GT model.

Lovely. 8-)

Passing at places I didn’t think was possible… he was so much faster through The Chase on both laps - epic final corner.

Yeah it's great to see cars with such different strengths battle. Like that epic Civic V Commodore lap of a few years ago.

the 70's Mustang is running close to 800 bhp, the Marc Mustang is prob closer to 600bhp. Made for a great race. Unfortunately the right rear wheel studs on the 70's Mustang sheared off on the 2nd race coming across Skyline... pretty nasty off and that has his weekend done!

The 1200 bhp R32 GTS skyline last year was pretty good to watch, however he was invited to leave after it clocked 330kph on Conrod! They now have a minimum 2.09 lap time for combined sedans.

Seemed that the monster speed down the straights wasn't matched with pace across the top though. The Mustang was back on his tail by Forest Elbow for half the race.
