What’s the furthest you’ve travelled to buy a car?

I once flew to Southampton to pick one up, just over 300 miles. I remember advertising my mates Alfa GTV on eBay and a bloke came from Holland for it!

I’ve had 3 from around Bristol, approx 200 miles away, the sud from Cornwall which was roughly 300 miles.

Closest was approx 1.5 miles for the e30

Got the VXR8 in Southampton. I was working close to London, got a train there, and drove it home.

I went to somewhere in Yorkshire to buy my 328i many many years ago.

Other way around, I’ve had people travel to Berkshire from Inverness, the highlands, & the west coast of Ireland to buy cars from me. And a bloke from Holland bought some wheels, he collected in person as part of a huge round trip buying stuff all over the place. He had a whole trailer loaded up.

I drove from Suffolk to North Wales with a friend to pick up a Golf G60 he was buying.

I travelled from Sheffield to Horsham by train to buy the supercharged mx5 from Ste, which is around 200 miles. The v6 Clio was from Bristol although I drove there with the PX, that was a great journey home :)

I've bought tens of used cars and viewed probably hundreds. The amount of times I've turned up to a car that is clearly not as described (or even close) is unbelievable. I wouldn't travel 100s of miles to see an unknown car/seller, but I'd happily travel for a car I know/have had someone I trust look at.

About a 250 mile round-trip for a car that broke down on the way home!

I’ve done 500 mile round trips a few times. The way I see is it’s easier to spend a few more hours travelling rather than hoping for something more local.

650 mile round trip to buy the Evora from the wrong side of Scotland.
Did 500 mile trip to collect the GTA.

Turns out some of the best cars I've had have come from the furthest away.

None of the cars we've bought have been special enough to warrant much travel (the S-Max that broke down was a bad decision) or bought in haste.

Volvo replaced the Micra that had been doomed by rust. Mazda replaced the Volvo that had been stolen. Galaxy replaced the S-Max that briefly (hours!) replaced the Mazda.

Only the Galaxy and Zoe weren't rushed purchases.

260 mile each way to get the Activa, drove home with suspension in service mode, so no travel at all.

About same to pick up the red 924 but that was with a trailer, and an X Type diesel estate, that was a fun journey home 😂

Flew to Belfast to pick it up and drove back via Dublin and Holyhead. Probably only just over 300 miles back in the car but a fair few more getting there by plane and on the ferry back. Around 750 miles total, roughly.
