Re: Running
And I was just saying to my wife - 3rd in age group is extremely good because it's not "3rd place out of some 40-somethings who are all doing their first triathlon", it's 3rd place out of a group of 40-somethings, some of whom have been doing triathlons for 20+ years.

Re: Running
How reassuringly expensive was the new bike?
Re: Running
Surprisingly not too much, because of the usual eBay bargain hunting that runs in the family I found a Felt B2 which is around 10 years old (they were ~£6k new), I specifically wanted to get mechanical gears, rather than electric, because I'm not ready for gremlins, I just wanted something that works. Found one in absolutely perfect mint condition, had basically been a decoration on someone's wall. Then SJ lent me a pair of carbon Roval wheels to make it extra nimble.
It's the first time I've used a TT bike and it makes such an enormous difference, especially when going into headwinds.

Ooh - bargains are good. That's a nice looking bike.
Re: Running
Another Triathlon success Smashed my way through Brighton triathlon today, building on the base from London.
Placed 2/30 in age group, and 21/382 overall. Took around 4 minutes off my total swim/cycle/run times from London. Super pleased!
Also, they guy who won my age group recently came 4th in his age group at the World champs. So yeah he’s quick

Another step forward in recovery, my boy and I took part in a backyard race at the weekend. You have 60 minutes to do a 4 mile loop, if you're not on the start line when the next one starts you're out and last person standing wins.
He wanted to do more than a marathon distance and managed 30 miles so was absolutely delighted. Even moreso as he'd only managed an 8 mile run in training. Those pesky youngsters with their vitality and natural fitness.
I wanted to do 20 miles as I've only just got back into a few months of running and had done a 16 miler but managed 26 miles so will take that as a sign of decent progress.

Re: Running
Awesome, sounds fun! How do you pace it? Run slow to avoid fatigue, but running slow also reduces recovery time. So he was running on/off for 8 hours? Reminds me of the Goggins 4x4x48 challenge!
Re: Running
Did my first Parkrun yesterday. Quite enjoyed it although there were lots of Strava types who appear to take it way too seriously.
A lad at football is doing 5k a day for two months so I said I’d join him yesterday. He also recruited the local MP to run it with us (whose primary motive was photos for his insta/FB, fair enough I guess )
I managed 27:14 so approx 8:45 per mile.

Nice one! Parkruns are great, really cool community if you show up regularly.

I have heard they can be quite competitive these days, but a good community spirit still.
Cheers,
