Looks like it, if Nadine Dorries has her way.
Is there any good reason to sell it? All I can see is pettiness.

I was waiting for a "Channel 4 [is dead]" thread...
Quite sad news IMO

To be fair, linear tv is dead and Channel 4s on demand service is clunky and crap.

How does that justify selling it though Rich?
All4 isn’t any worse than most streaming apps. Also broadcast channels still have more viewers than streaming apps here.
It would be a shame to see something that is a net positive for the creative industry here be gutted for what is contextually a small amount of money

I have to say that it’s only in the last couple of weeks that I realised it wasn’t privately owned.

Nadine Dorries was similarly unaware how it is funded. She's an utterly ignorant fool. You aren't, but then it isn't your actual fucking job to know this stuff, as it is for the Minister for Culture
Ch4 is a great channel; it commissions stuff which is actually forward-looking, inclusive, novel, interesting and despite taking the odd risk, it makes a profit. There's no reason to sell it, and certainly not to compete with Netflix.
All4 has a massive back catalogue of absolutely amazing shows from the last 30 or so years. If you want to watch Absolutely or The Adam & Joe Show or Raised by Wolves, they won't be picked up elsewhere.
I just hope this doesn't happen, and if it does then I hope Richard Osman makes good on his Twitter promise to buy it.

It is a stupid idea by the blindly ignorant, designed to distract from bigger problems and feed ideological needs. Ch4 costs us nothing but adds value and supports the creative industry. There's no justification that's in the interest of the country.

i expect the thought process is to sell it off whilst it is still worth something. I do agree that the content has interested me far more than any other terrestrial channel for years (or decades).

Everything Jobbo said.
Also, linear TV is far from dead Rich, and streaming services do not compete head on with terrestrial TV. Anyway, All4 is the largest free streaming service in the UK.
This is simply because C4 has the audacity to hold this corrupt and contemptible government to account and it calls a spade a spade. Jon Snow was a brilliant anchor and great interviewer, which is why it was so hard to get government ministers on there.
Nadine Dorries is as thick as pig shit and shouldn't be anywhere near the TV License, C4 or a liquor cabinet.

Aye, it's either that or a soft sell into privatising the BBC. Possibly both
On a lighter note, this Twitter account is funny. Posts daily excerpts from Nadine Dorries bizarrely horny prose writing.

All of this. It's a cynical "fvck you" move by the Cons. Totally unnecessary and unjustified.
I hope this backfires on the Tories hugely.
