I only watched the godfather recently. I liked it, but 30 years of hype meant I didn't think it was amazing or anything.

I think that’s what’s stopping me, probably like someone watching Star Wars for the first time today.

This year is a good time to see it, 24th August is the fiftieth anniversary of its release.

I checked the IMDb top 100 and there are 15 I haven’t seen. The Pianist is the highest on the list but I’m not likely to watch it as Polanski can get to fuck.

Specifically car related I've never seen Smokey and the Bandit or Vanishing Point.
Or Days of Thunder

I did say classic, Days of Thunder resides in the utter shit category.

That’s an outrageous comment. It’s better than Top Gun.

FTFY.

I’ve only watched 13 of the IMDb top 100 apparently
None of the godfathers, none of the star wars all the way through that I can remember, one of the lord of the rings things.

i think I've seen pretty much all the films from 1980 onwards top 100 list - I struggle a bit with 60/70s films and older - they have a very different pace (that's not to say that there aren't some absolute belters like the 60s bond films.)

I fell asleep in the first LoTR film after that the rest and the hobbit films I never bothered with.
Never seen the godfather films or Scarface all the way through either despite really liking Casino, The Irishman and Goodfellas. I will get around to them but it will be on my own as the wife hates the genre.

I still don’t get why people seem smug that they’ve not seen particular sets of films.
I’ll give anything a chance - even Marvel/ twilight/ divergent/ whatever - sure, 9 times out of 10 they’ll be as you expect, but you get the odd surprise and experience a good/great film.

It’s like when people do it with sport “oh you like the kickball do you?” Just let people enjoy things.
I watched all the Hunger Games just because they were on Netflix and they’re excellent imo.

Only 36/100 (IMDB top 100), that's pretty poor. There's plenty I'd like just never got around to watching.
I did remember trying a hobbit film recently but it just didn't grab me to stay up to watch it so I recorded it and then never finished it. Not sure I can go back and retry the LoTR series based on that.
I'm going to make an effort to watch some other from that list though.
