Yeah, the rumour is actually that they're going to fire all their employees and replace with cheaper foreign labour.

Agency staff on ships, yeah, I’ll steer clear of P&O then

.
Is their some history to this as it seems like quite a heavy handed move?
Dave!

I suspect it'll turn a bit ugly. All crew fired with immediate effect. Unions telling crew to stay on the ships. Looks like a right duck move by P&O.

Ridiculous behaviour, suggesting that crew apply for their old jobs through the agency as well just to kick them while they're down.

How can they be made redundant then replaced with people doing the same job, I though contract law made that illegal?

Crikey. Worked for P&O Cruises years ago, different operation I know but my god they were stuck in their ways. Call centre staff had to wear uniforms, us IT folks had to wear ties, stuff like that. They’ve modernised since then but I still hear tales from those who remain (not many of them though, they were COVID culled last year).

Because they'll pay the fines with the money saved in staffing costs.
Carnival Corp, who own p&o are a billion dollar company. Like they give a fuck about a potential couple of million quid fine for breaking employment law

That's the P&O cruises division, not the ferries division.

I can see them rebranding very soon.

Then seeing a reduction in trade because people refuse to use them, then going under anyway

Under EU employment law, yes. As I understand it, they've moved HQ to Cyprus which means UK employment law doesn't apply so that's another Brexit bonus.

The cruise business I was talking about - which I believe is completely separate.

I see. I read it as the ferries changing names
