So you’re on an Airbus A320 when both the pilots take ill (despite one having fish and the other chicken). They need someone to land the muthafuckin plane and there are no qualified sky-bus drivers on board.
So - you know the theory. You’ve played a flight simulator (ZX Spectrum and even some more recent ones. If there was someone on the headphones giving you some guidance on which buttons do what (like in Airplane) - could you land that muthafuckin plane?

Fuck yeah.

Do you mean land it successfully, or get it to the ground?
Because I could do the latter, but the former might be trickier.

Yeah, simply getting it on the ground is kinda the default outcome

There’s no time to dilly dally and pontificate about this later guys! We need a decision now! Before Norman in 27E steps up….

You could get it into the water. I could set an autopilot in a 747 from memory of flight sims if I had it in front of me I'd wager, which would then *allow* me to get it somewhere with ground availability, at leastSundayjumper wrote: ↑Fri Mar 04, 2022 9:39 am Yeah, simply getting it on the ground is kinda the default outcome

Interesting proposition, if it's a calm day with minimal wind then I'd fancy a go.
How about not having a sig at all?
Re: Could you do it? (Not FTAO IanF)
Id step in confident that the plane would land itself and everyone who dominoes understand that would be impressed
Re: Could you do it? (Not FTAO IanF)
This. I think between the tech and guidance from someone on the ground then anyone should be able to get it down. Better to crash slowly at an airport than run out of fuel and fall into the sea.
Re: Could you do it? (Not FTAO IanF)
Just man the fuck up and let it crash

Not only would I land it, not only would I take out the terrorists who killed the pilots, but think I would handle the whole situation rather well.
Is this not like the poll of men where 7/10 of them thought they could beat Serena Williams at tennis?

Yes I’d do all this whilst the hot cabin crew throw themselves at my begging to make love…Explosive Newt wrote: ↑Fri Mar 04, 2022 1:32 pm Not only would I land it, not only would I take out the terrorists who killed the pilots, but think I would handle the whole situation rather well.

Re: Could you do it? (Not FTAO IanF)
Of course most people could, they'd simply be controlled over 5g via the jabplant by a qualified pilot wearing a vr headset in a call centre in India (maybe Birmingham)

Before or after you wing tip any incoming Russian nukes to send them off into space and save the planet?Mito Man wrote: ↑Fri Mar 04, 2022 1:50 pmYes I’d do all this whilst the hot cabin crew throw themselves at my begging to make love…Explosive Newt wrote: ↑Fri Mar 04, 2022 1:32 pm Not only would I land it, not only would I take out the terrorists who killed the pilots, but think I would handle the whole situation rather well.

Just realised I forgot to add a “with my eyes closed” option - DHSeb would have needed that.

Hours spent on F117A Stealth Fighter on the Amiga 30 years ago mean that I'm definitely "the man" in this scenario.
Cheers,

Original MS Flight Sim *and* Chuck Yeager Air Combat. I'll land the sucker, power slide it down the taxiways to wild applause from the passengers before doing a one-handed J turn into the gate.
