Sound bars.

Post by Zonda_ »

Damn I wish I’d bought one of these sooner, utterly transformed the tv sound. Good job we don’t get on with the neighbours! :D

I got a Sonos Beam when I got a new tv last year. Would recommend.

I always had my TV through my separates but most recent TVs didn't have plugs that were compatible so got a Panasonic bar with sub and although not as good as the much more expensive separates it does make a big difference over and above the TV sound. No idea what model I got, think it was around £250 ish.

I have a toslink optical output from the telly going into a little converter box thingy to provide rca input to my 31yr old NAD 3240PE. Have used this on a couple of different tellyboxes over the years.

I found a Sky Devialet sound box on ebay for 30 quid which sounds a lot better than it has any right to for the size of it.

I did get some sort of optical thingy but there was a delay that was noticeable. Probably a "get what you pay for" thing as I am fairly sure it was cheap.

Should be able to adjust that on your tellybox (both Samsung and LG tV’s I have used with it had adjustable sound output timing, but moot point anyway as you have a sound bar. :)

I've got about a quarter second delay on my soundbar that can't be adjusted out. Issue is that telly doesn't support ARC, so the only way to get sound is using a headphone cable which introduces the delay.

Telly (2008 vintage Samsung) is beginning to have some issues. When the rows of failing pixels become permanent it'll be replaced. Currently they come back to life when it has warmed up, so can't be bothered spending the money just yet.

I found the delay setting but even reducing it to the minimum there was still enough to just be annoying. There is an infinitesimal delay with the SB bur only noticeable with TV speaker on as well which we never do anyway.

No, it has an HDMI-ARC connection if your TV has one. I'm just using the optical out because I don't have enough HDMI space and it's fine.
