MPS5S not released yet but expected shortly..

So who is going to be the first on the forum to try these out?

Presumably these are going to be an improvement over the 4 and then 4S? Do the big name tyre manufacturers ever release something which is objectively worse than the version its replacing?

Won’t be me - my MPS4S still have about 6mm all round.

The internet is the wrong place for objectivity I'm afraid. The new tyres will either be:

a) THE BEST THING EVAR (I need to justify the money I've just spent on them)

b) THE WORST THING EVAR (I need to justify my existence by telling people how I'm such a driving god)

There is no middle ground.

That might be the one I was thinking about... were they not total bobbins which had everyone still buying the PS2s?

MPSS5's to confuse everyone!

Interesting indeed! I still find MPS4S amazing - had to pop out last night - car had been in the garage at about 11 DegC, but although it was bone dry ambient temp was 4DegC and I had loads of grip.

Yet, they are very popular in cheap motorsport circles, though that may be primarily because they are had cheap after the GInetta Junior teams run them for a few laps of testing then get rid. I've got about 8 in the garage at the moment.

I thought the PS5 was slightly worse than the PS4 despite being better on paper. Tyres may be close to peaking in terms of grip as the focus is now on minimising wear and particles released and they're throwing all sorts of sustainable plant matter crap into them. And with EVs getting more prolific the last thing you want is high grip.

No - I don’t think Michelin have done a good job with their tyre naming conventions (unless their intent was to confuse - it which case - awesome job!)

The PS5 (non-S) doesn’t perform as well as the PS4S, but it wasn’t designed as the performance tyre, so no real surprise, unless you are John Q Citizen who just assumed that a 5 must trump a 4.

As per the vid - The PS5S (or PSS5?) is the PS4S replacement.

You’d think they would have learned with thr PS2 => PS3 fiasco as noted above. The PS3 wasn’t intended to replace the PS2, and wasn’t as performance oriented, but few folks seemed to be aware of this and spent their money on disappointment….

From a performance perspective I understand PS4S>PS5>PS4.

Bloke on the Lotus forum confirmed that (in addition to the fact that they are only currently available in 21” diameter) there will be no retail sales available for some time - focus is on OE fitments.
