Damage to be repaired:

Leading edge of lower rear arch creased
OSR door skin a bit wavy from having been pushed in and popped back out



Been to see an official Skoda Approved bodyshop and just received the estimate back. Any guesses?

£1200 + vat

£1400

Due to parts supply issues uneconomical to repair and written off.

Either £4k or £8k.

Cost has come in at £2k. All because the rear arch will need taking back to metal to be pulled out. Which then means spraying that, the door, and the sill to blend it in, and possibly into the drivers door as well.

I'm actually fairly annoyed at how relatively fine it is! The repair cost vs. amount of work to get right is annoying, and it doesn't seem like VFM as there's nothing wrong with the paint.

Have you looked at paintless dent removal type people?

I'm assuming this is not an insurance job then?

Manufacturer approved places don't really deal in "normal people" numbers, they're all about insurance quotes. Try the pointless dent guys - they often do a photo based quote l.

Can't do PDR as the location of the crease in the arch is where it's double skinned. Or so I've been told now by 2 non-pdr people.

I might give one a call anyway. To be honest, if they could sort the door and get the arch 90% of the way done I might be tempted

I bet someone good with a glue puller could get a lot of that out. Maybe not perfect, but unnoticeable by anyone who didn’t have it pointed out to them.

Of course, because you know it’s there you’ll still always see it no matter how minor it is.

Even double skinned panels often have some access, usually grommets or holes where wax is injected, or to let fluids drain out after dipping during assembly, depends how much they’re prepared to remove to try and find them.

Smart repair if you're not going to keep that for more than a few years.

My sister-in-law had a similar dent on her wheelarch on her C-Max when it was nearly new and they were able to PDR that.

So don't listen to non-pdr people and get a PDR practitioner's opinion.

I was told this by my mate who runs a paint shop. He mentioned a Polish Wizard who only did small repairs from his unit and they did the ML perfectly. It wasn’t double skinned but there was no access behind the panel without drilling a hole and I refused a hole to be drilled.

Had a smaller ding in my SUPERB and pdr man sorted no problem. I believe they make a small insertion under wheel arch, fix and then put a bung in.

Don't think you're local to me (hants) but the one I use is excellent.

I will try someone - a mate recommended a local guy. What you can't see in that image (as I hadn't spotted it when I took the photo) is that it's dented the arch right down near the sill.

Still, worth a shot.

I also wouldn’t have an issue with an access hole being drilled, as long as they didn’t turn it into Swiss cheese and it’s not some exotic you won’t to keep forever.

Saying that, the only reason my Alfa is still alive today is probably because it had a load of holes drilled in it and stuffed full of cavity wax

So - 2 PDR guys with over 20yrs experience. Both say no chance. No way into what is a double-skinned area of panel.
