Fireworks this year...

...is it me or have they been somewhat subdued? Ear piercing screamers and the-world-is-caving-in booms (mostly) absent? All the better for it imo, all the ooh! of the sparkles and pops without the argh! of feeling like you're in a shock & awe war zone 8-)
Hopefully it's widespread so pets and wildlife have had a better time of it.

Very loud ones round here, none of the screamers though. St Bernard puppy was terrified. Chihuahua couldn't give a shit.

Definitely toned down a notch round me. The village display was on yesterday but can't say we noticed that either.

Dave!

That might be some of it, that it's fallen on a weekend, and that Diwali was Thursday. There were fireworks going off through the week but it's been much more sight than sound, a pleasant and enjoyable surprise :D 8-)

The usual pikeys two doors down had over an hours worth of very loud fireworks Friday night, and some more last night. It was a bit much IMO. The local facebook group was an amusing rage-fest though, which was fun.

Folks should be considerate of others with kids/pets/mental health issues. Folks on the other side of that see-saw should be considerate of others wanting to enjoy one night. There's a happy balance somewhere that nobody ever finds.

You've been sold a duff St Bernard, they shouldn't be scared of Chihuahuas. ;)

This part of east London has one of the greatest densities of South Asian communities in the country, so fireworks have been running from 7pm until 1am for the last three+ nights as Diwali segued into Guy Fawkes

Did you take the pup out to watch them ?

We always take ours out and it never takes long for them to relate the bright light with the noise and then they don’t care anymore. We’ve done that with 5 dogs now and 2 which were really scared don’t care anymore.

We didn’t have any big displays nearby but there was still enough folk setting stuff off to spook the cats for most of the night.

Fireworks are stupid.

Newport Pagnell’s fireworks were the only ones for miles around that weren’t cancelled this year so it was absolute carnage. 1000’s of people, main roads blocked with cars jus abandoned.

Glad we skipped it…

There were plenty of fuckwits who decided that after 11pm was a perfectly acceptable time to start shelling Gloucester.

I mean, yes, but also no.

I've just heard my first ones this year, and only just. I'm sure I would have seen much more of a light show if I'd looked out the window (which was slightly ajar behind a closed curtain), the loudest they got was a slightly louder pop than just a fizz...pop. Pleasant.
