Rather than polluting multiple threads with COP26 comments and shizzle, it seems far more friendly to the ov9 environment to have them all in a single thread.

So far they've had the middle finger from China, and essentially India too. I didn't realise this meeting was also another way for the usual corrupt third world countries to request aid for renewable energy. India asking for a trillion dollar commitment from developed countries to less developed. Perhaps Modi could start sticking those Indian space rockets up his arse and reinvest it into a few solar panels...
We don't even have fecking fully renewable power sorted here, are up to the hilt in debt and are now going to start funding green energy projects in other places. No doubt minting a good few dictators in the process...

He does indeed appear to be reporting from Edinburgh. Is it correct that plenty of delegates are staying in Edinburgh? I don't see any harm in shunting an American news broadcaster down the list if there's insufficient space for everyone in Glasgow

And still nobody is talking about the elephant in the room, cos it marks you out as a fascist who supports genocide….
It’s not a criticism of people who have 9 siblings or have 5 kids of their own today….. but it’s an issue we need to tackle via awareness/education and removal of incentives (ie France where the income taxation system benefits people who have 3 kids…. So “most” couples then aim to have 3 kids…..)

Nah, you just need to make sure that women get an education.
Although in many societies in the developing world, that's considered with similar contempt to genocide...

Singapore did this, and because a woman with an education can get a job that isn't 'being a baby factory from age twelve', they put off having kids till later; a more educated society tends to have better healthcare, so your kids don't die at age two from cholera, so you don't have to have lots of kids to ensure there's someone to work the farmland; and more educated society means less manual labour in general, meaning more service industry/fintech/STEM jobs etc - something Singapore fucking boomed at in the 90s. Emancipation means women get involved in politics and shape political discourse, etc.
It all starts from giving them a basic right to be educated, and frankly, treated as part of society rather than a resource for making more kids.
Singapore, one of the poster kids for overpopulation warnings, has a birthrate that has dropped massively in the last 50 years, and a lot of it comes from, entertainingly, 'smashing the patriarchy' in a fundamental manner.

The population problem isn't just about birth rate. It's also about life expectancy. In the last 100 years life expectancy has doubled in devloped countries.

Yeah, it's more complicated than just too many people and it only get's ropey when people focus on developing world birth rates as the problem.
Despite slowing population growth developed nations are responsible for the lion's share of carbon emissions etc. Also people in the developing world are more likely to be badly effected by climate change.

Agree fully. But it is a factor that we can’t ignore. We could all half our environmental impact over the next X years, but it’s a complete waste of time if the population doubles in that same timeframe.
