Gaming PC - Is this the "shiz" or is it just shit?

The boy is looking for a gaming PC and has found this one.

What say the gaming experts on here? Is this worth the money? Or is there something else we should be looking at instead for that sort of price?
Thanks!

I'd say both are very under done for GPU power.

What’s the deal with GPUs these days anyway? Do you still have to sell a kidney to get the latest & greatest card?

Yes, but with China's new laws on crypto and more capacity coming online there does seem to be light at the end of the tunnel.
What kind of games at what resolution will be key factors.

You're essentially paying £750 to play big titles at medium resolution with that or even more towards low with a 4k monitor. That's the thing, unless you currently want to spend a silly amount a PS5 or new Xbox is way better at gaming.

I think his main reason for it is that there’s some titles which are either PC only, or aren’t cross-platform, so him and his friends seem to be settling on PC as something they can all play together on. So I’m guessing the highest-resolution isn’t a priority.
Is it still the case that a PC like that one will last for a decent amount of time if you just continue to upgrade the video card as and when?

If you find out more specifics on games then that helps refine a spec. Eg. If it's competitive FPS he'll value a good high refresh monitor even if it's smallish in size to go with the box. But lots of variables there.
In theory upgrading when hardware prices stabilise is a great idea and easy. But some forethought on the motherboard and PSU will save pain later.
In these weird times laptops sometimes provide good "value" in terms of gaming power but do restrict upgradeability.

Sounds like I need to do a lot more reading-up before buying something then!

This is also a useful resource for comparing specs, and you can see how many fps people are getting on certain games with the setup you intend to buy.

Here's the weirdness that current PC gaming is.
Normally recommending a gaming Laptop would be insanity other than for a small niche of users. But here is a 3060 mobile (so not quite full phat 3060)
https://www.cyberpowersystem.co.uk/syst ... ing-Laptop
Which with the cost of peripherals is broadly the same as your initial desktop and would curbstomp it in gaming.

There's possibly even better mobile 3000 series GPU deals put there too. Although I've had a look at OCUK the guys I've had great PC parts service from and didn't see any.

That's madness. Amazing how things change so quickly if you're out of the loop on it for even a short while
