I use an old air2 64gb for sofa browsing and watching YouTube but it’s battery is very nearly dead as it now will only do about an hour of use before it shuts down. It’s served well but it’s about 5 years old.
Can you get the batteries replaced like you can with the phones? Is it worth it and has anyone had one done? Any ideas of cost.
Don’t want to buy another tablet as it’s still fine for what I do and my note 10 serves my other needs adequately.

Well batteries are cheap and plentiful on eBay, so I’d say yes, they can be changed, probably no harder than an iPhone.

Way more difficult than an iPhone to open up, they’re glued together and you have to heat it gently in the right places to get it apart without breaking the screen.
Apple charge £99 which isn’t bad. A decent phone repairer might be able to do it a bit cheaper.
