Very sad news

I think we've all become desensitised as to the inherent risks I'm motorsports, which is why something like this is so shocking

Makes you realise that being a marshal isn't just a shortcut to bring able to watch car/bike racing

Motorsport is dangerous, and we forget that...

Tragic. I’ve seen the crash but only from one angle and can’t work out quite why the Escort went flying.

Looks like it hit fairly high up on the barrier which folded over and launched the car into a barrel roll along the top of it. They’re doing 120+ mph and the track slopes up, just an unfortunate angle.

That. And the car appears to be “high” at the front left when it hits - looked like a very sudden right rear puncture (tyre off the rim possibly?)

Awww nuts :(
I had the option of marshalling at a track this year as I got 12 months free Motorsport UK membership. When I got the list of events, was surprised with how many volunteers are needed over the year, which are essential to enable club motorsport to happen. So hats off to them all.

I know a guy who does this and takes his own Defender Ambulance there. Some of these people a lot of their own money making these events work too.

Hopefully these accidents stay very rare events.

Sad news

My dad was a recovery driver at Knockhill for a few years when I was a kid. Used to like going up and getting involved too, worked a couple of btcc weekends.

Biggest crash I ever saw was a Super Touring Toyota Carina going end over end through the gravel trap at Duffus Dip.
An absolute unit

Totally understandable for club level racing, but it still bemuses me - considering how much money there is in F1 and some of the other major series - that marshals are all volunteers. 😕
