I know its a fortune. I dont have a push iron but done they cost a stack of coin to service the breaks? Everything costs money and lots of it these days.

For bikes no there isnt.

Tax band has never prevented me from buying the car I wanted to buy, although paying it is fooling annoying of course.

I feel sorry for folks with cars the wrong side of a tax change, when identical cars a month or so apart pay different rate, cos it does impact their value.

I don’t care at all, on the ML is the difference of doing another 700 miles in a year. Tiny in the total ownership costs of a car.

Civic is £335/pa or something annoying. The joke of it being based on emissions, for a car that does a couple k miles a year..

I didn't realise there was yet another system in place currently until I bought the Rangey. I did know there was an initial tax based on vehicle price but I didn't expect that it persisted until the car was a set number of years old.

On the plus side once that times out, I think it is like 100 quid a year versus 400ish for the 911, which seems perverse give they're both worth the same and emissions are not too dissimilar.

So we've gone from engine size, to [potential] emissions, to initial purchase price plus [potential] emissions all in a decade or so.

My Subaru was like that, 06 plate, about £300 a year, my 56 plate, same car just 6months newer £540.

Nice going to the tvr which is cheaper than both!

As for e10 my fuel lines are done but it uses super unleaded which isn’t changing ethanol content anyway, it’s only going to be 95 that changes.

The 4C was always £180/year to tax...or so I thought as I was always shopping for early cars.....but as mines a late 17-plate it JUST fell into the new tax bands, and there's a £300 excess for the first 6 years, so it's £480/year to tax until 2023.

So on top of the Up, paying £60/month in tax does sting a bit, will admit. And yes it does factor into my decisions, especially as a second car.

I think the XF was 180, Xantia 320 and Volvo 150 but I might be wrong, that's how much I care about it!

yoid probably remember if it was £900 - that presumably more than a xantia is worth?

Mines 49.43 a month which put that way isnt too bad

All 3 of mine combined in monthly terms cost less than a single train return ticket so I'm not too fussed.

I'd imagine the XF and Volvo do a lot more polluting that the Xantia, but cost a lot less to tax.
