Ferrari 296 GTB

I don't have any original comments to make.... I'd rather it had 500bhp and was less than 2/3 the price, but really I'm very glad that Ferrari are making pretty supercars again. I honestly didn't think that would happen again with the way their design has been going before the Roma.

Some of the details in the headlights and rear could be improved a bit, but overall it's a great shape IMO.

Watch from after 1:30 if you want a shot that's longer than 0.2 seconds.

So this is a replacement for the V8s rather than a model to sit beneath them? I presume so with the hybridisation/that horsepower figure and the fact that it is £230k!

So a sad watershed moment then really. I wonder how long the V12 has left - that really will be something to lament. Hopefully they will try and hybridise that rather than downsize to a V8.

Looks fantastic from the side view - somewhat of a return to form after recent efforts with their mid engined cars. Can anyone else see a bit of stratos in the glasshouse/door shape? Front and rear still a bit generic looking.

I'd guess V6 is the new V8 and V8 the new V12 for all but their LaFerrari replacement.

I really thought the V6 would sound better.

I wonder if there are any commonalities with the V6 in the MC20.

Info from evo

Numbers for the IC engine alone are pretty stunning.

See the evo article:

“ The combustion engine itself is a brand new 2992cc twin-turbo V6 that’s augmented by a single electric motor sandwiched between it and an eight-speed dual clutch transmission. Despite a similar displacement to Maserati’s new Nettuno engine, the 296’s V6 is in fact completely unrelated, and features a wider 120-degree bank angle, a hot-V turbocharger layout and no clever pre-combustion tech as found in the Maserati.”

Interesting. The Maser engine is no slouch either - 600+ horsepower from that as well.

To be honest I'd probably buy the MC20 over the Ferrari. You don't need the extra 200bhp from the leccy motor and the MC20 looks better/will be lighter, is £50k cheaper and will be rarer (so may even give it a run for its money on residuals).

MC20 does indeed look great, although

Yes clearly some design inspiration going on there!

It does look great but it’s not a huge departure from their current design language is it?

You can definitely see the F8 and SF90 in it.

I've only ever liked 2 Ferraris, the F40 and the F355.

This isn't doing anything to change my opinion of the new ones 😂

Would rather have that Maserati.

I have always loved the 288GTO, but merely liked almost every other. Maybe a bit more than like for the F40 (not in red though). No strong desire.

Even back when I was a youngling I would have taken a Jalpa over the prettier 328, Countach over a ‘Rossa.

Have only driven a 355. It was OK but didn’t wow me.

Another vote for this. Their residuals are absolutely nuts though. Still £115k for one.

I've always been a Ferrari fanboy, I even defended the 612 styling when it first came out

I think it could have been a very pretty car but the detailing is just all wrong to me, the pointy schnoz, the Corvette taillights, the ducts by the lights. Seems less coherent than McLaren which is a low bar!

Will no doubt keep making Ferrari money hand over fist.

Ferrari have obviously seen McLaren create a confusing range of cars which look similar and decided they wanted to do the same thing.

458 still feels current to me 😂
Barely seen any 488s.
Think I’ve seen one or two F8s and I’m guessing this new 296 replaces that model.

My current Ferrari pick would be the Roma with the weird grill blacked out.
